FAB-UUUU-LOUUUS !!!! Lynne thanks very much for coming up with this and I reckon that's a lovely way to do it so hope you guys all had fun with it.
Have a great Christmas - I have started the analysis .....

Ps if anyone can help, we have a rogue song entered the fray from poster "mph" calked "Words of love" which doesn't come up on any search that I can find. Said mph is not opening their PMs in several days so anyone else prepared to offer any idea - maybe the Buddy Holly song cover that Richard once played some place ?

Yep it was a radio session with just Richard and Shez, seem to recall it may have been with Kid Jensen or whatever he is called these days. It is the Buddy Holly song. Lovely version it was too 8)

Capital Gold 7 September 2006, Richard and Shez performed Coles Corner and Words of Love, just found the tracks on my iPod.

OK so here we go with Day 1 of the results sequence - thanks to everyone here and on Facebook for contributing.

We had a total of 46 contributions, some very kindly sourced by Denise[W] from Facebook. In addition I discarded two entries that each had less than 6 songs mentioned. After all it's a Top 10 !

So first thing to say is that this exercise can hardly be described as a truly representative sample from a reasonable cross-section of Richard's fan base. It is only what it is.

The 46 contributors listed a total of 86 songs, of which all were identifiable [eventually]. The group shown below as "other", comprises b-side singles, Glenfiddich songs, London live, False Lights EP, and what I believe to be unreleased songs. You will see the full list of songs within Day 4 and Day 5's results.

Adding the points awarded for each song and expressing them as a total for each album, here somewhat predictably is the order of album preference as a percentage of the total votes cast

22.3% Coles Corner
16.0% Truelove's Gutter
15.1% Lady's Bridge
15.0% Lowedges
9.9% Late Night Final
8.0% "other"
7.8% Hollow Meadows
3.4% Standing at the Sky's Edge
2.5% Richard Hawley

For me, the surprise outcome of this particular part of the exercise is that Standing at the Sky's Edge did not collectively amass more votes, especially as it did so well in the album chart.

So here we are with Day 2 of the results sequence. This summary merely states the number of times that a song featured at the top of anyone's list. That is not to say that the song at the top was necessarily everyone's "favourite song", as around 10% stated that their song list was "in no particular order". Again, it is what it is. A reminder that there were 46 contributors.

Number of times a song was put at the top of a list, followed by song title

5
The Ocean
Hotel Room

4
Run for me

3
Coles Corner

2
Dark Road
Baby you're my light
Serious
For your lover give some time

1
Valentine
Remorse Code
Just like the rain
Tonight the streets are ours
Lady's Bridge
Oh my love
The nights are cold
Soldier on
You don't miss your water
Room with a view
Something is !
Long Black Train
Open up your door
Precious sight
Bang to rights
Don't you cry
Lady Solitude
Born under a bad sign
I still want you
Naked in Pitsmoor
The nights are made for us

Look at the love for "Hotel Room" - that surprised me, - not because I dislike it, it just surprised me that it featured at the top so often.

Third segment of the results below. Off to Cornwall tomorrow for New Years so will see what can be done from my iPad for the last couple of results tables.

The list below shows how many times an individual song was voted for by any of the 46 contributors. The weighted average will appear in the fourth and fifth tables of the results, - however some of you may prefer this analysis, given the difficulties some people had in ranking their Top 10.

What is shown is the number of times any song appeared within contributors' lists, alongside the song title. So "Streets" appeared within exactly half of the lists submitted, you get the idea, I'm sure........

26 The Ocean
23 Tonight the streets are ours
22 Open up your door
20 Hotel Room
19 Coles Corner
16 There's a storm comin'
15 Run for me
12 Remorse Code; Soldier on
11 You don't miss your water; Oh my love
10 I still want you; Something is !
9 Tuesday PM; Darlin'; Heart of Oak; For your lover give some time
8 Bang to rights; As the dawn breaks; I'm on nights; Just like the rain

This table records the Top 21 only. A full list of songs voted for will appear in the next two tables of results, so watch this space..

Results today start with the deep cuts that were voted, with the most obscure/forgotten and the total number of votes scored, using the method that 10 was given to the song at the top of anyone's list, descending to 1 for the song at the bottom. The number that you see below is the total votes scored using that method from all the contributions.
Think Richard may be looking with interest at this one.........

1 Crawfish; Wading through the waters; The world looks down
2 Shallow burn; Ashes on the fire; Lonesome town; Rockabilly Radio; Danny
3 Since I met you baby; Lonely night; Last orders
4 Happy families; Long black veil; I’m absolutely Hank Marvin
5 Words of love; Hushabye Mountain; Caravan
6 Baby’s back; Coming home
7 Which way; Who’s gonna shoe your pretty little feet; I’m waiting for the man;
Kelham Island
8 Big sister; Tonight; Sometimes I feel; Life in a barrel; The sea calls; Before
9 Seek it; The light at the end of the tunnel; Our darkness; I sleep alone
10 Time will bring you winter; Leave your body behind you
11 Sorry I lost my way; The sun refused to shine; Looking for someone to find me
12 Vickers Road
13 Don’t get hung up in your soul; What love means
14 Nothing like a friend
15 No way home
16 The nights are cold
18 Down in the woods
19 Precious sight
20 It’s over love; Don’t you cry
22 Bang to rights; Roll river roll
24 The nights are made for us
26 Long time down; Naked in Pitsmoor
27 The only road
28 Lady’s bridge
29 Don’t stare at the sun
31 Long black train; Can you hear the rain love
32 Room with a view
33 Love of my life
35 Valentine
38 Heart of Oak; Just like the rain
39 Lady Solitude; Baby you’re my light
41 I’m on nights

On the final day of results, the Top 20 will be shown using the same method. So these are the "bottom 66" if you will.......

Yes thanks for doing this. I didn't vote as I couldn't narrow my choices to 10.

So here is the final table of the results - this table shows the weighted version, based on the ranking method previously described. 86 songs voted in all, here are your Top 20....

141 Hotel Room
137 Open up your door
131 Tonight the streets are ours
109 Run for me

The Championship

84 There’s a storm comin’
64 Soldier on
62 Remorse Code
59 Oh my love
58 For your lover give some time

54 You don’t miss your water
48 As the dawn breaks
47 Tuesday PM
46 Serious
44 Darlin’
43= I still want you; Born under a bad sign
42 Dark Road

It's been a bit of fun doing this, thankfully not quite as strenuous as the 1000+ votes Springsteen endeavour of 2013 :Hoorah
As this year draws to a close I'd like to wish everyone on here whatever you wish yourselves for 2016.
I don't know too many of you, but hope to meet a few more of you further on up the road.
Have a great time whatever ou are doing for the rest of the day and all the best

Mike

Brilliant stuff! Thanks for doing that. Chuffed to see Dark Road sneak in - don't think it's been played live much since 2007?
