... I think I remember reading somewhere that the bloke who sang the RWhiteslemonade ad was Elvis Costello's dad

Ross MacManus? Yep, that sounds right. He used to sing with the Joe Loss Orchestra.

my Auntie used to be the female vocalist with the Joe Loss Orchestra for many years, her and Ross remain good friends today. I remember a few years back in london seeing both of them do a charity gig, which included a guest spot from Elvis which was a bit surreal but good fun.

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

Richard,
I am particually taken with the track "Vickers Road" at the moment having just bought the single of "Tonight the streets are ours" - a bit late I know but I've never bought singles before and I suddenly realised that I was missing out on B sides so I bought that and "Serious" together...

I think that it is a wonderful track and just wondered if it was as autobiographical as it sounds. Did you really get blamed for the hand biting coz my sister used to do things like that me all the time? :*:
Us eldest always got the blame didn't we???
It makes me smile a lot....
I love it.

Just heard this for the first time today. Reminds me of our house on Eastleigh Road in Leicester. Left there in 1977, but regularly dream I'm back there, standing in the front bedroom looking down into the street at night, seeing Dad's Ford Zephyr. I think we'd all go back if we had a time machine wouldn't we.
