I just bought today a best of CD from Dusty Springfield called Just Dusty which has 26 tracks on it and I never realised that she had so many great songs. I saw a piece on her last week on a BBC show about female singers so I thought that I might investigate further.
All I have previously belonging to her was an old vinyl copy of a Greatest Hits album from the 70's. Funny though that one of my favourite tracks of hers is one she did with the Pet Shop Boys called Nothing Has Been Proved, I think that this was released in the 80's. Great singer.

I agree. She was a stunning singer. I think 'Dusty in Memphis' is one of my favourite albums of hers. The Pet Shop Boys really revived her career when she was down on her luck and she recorded some great stuff with them. Fantastic voice and a unique talent. Sadly missed

She makes it look so effortless!

Check out her version of The Temptations Ain't No Sun Since You've Been Gone. Fantastic!

Use to like Dusty but her "diction" was not great!

At the time of her biggest single it took months in our house to work what she was singing after the line "You don't have to say you love me ..." We all thought she sang ".. just because .." which didn't make sense, until the penny dropped that the words were " ..just be close at hand"

The album before that is pretty good too, but she'd moved on to Memphis by the time it came out.

Didn't she bottle it and end up not recording that record in Memphis at all-i recognize the band some tracks have that great sound from the Elvis 69 recordings -but im sure she added he vocals later-"going back" is the song i love mind.

A "Dusty" CD was playing at the hospital while I was waiting for an appointment a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it.

There are just so many brilliant tracks on that album and you just never tire of hearing them.

Another favourite track of mine is 'Spooky' - they used it in an ad recently but I can't remember which album it's on.

Spooky was a b side (to How Can I Be Sure), now an extra track on the Definitely album and on just about every Dusty comp out there!

I had a Best of Dusty CD about 10 years ago. Some GIT stole it during a party (obviously i didn't realise til after) and i've missed it ever since! She is one of my all time favourate singers along with Dion Warwick!

Dave very kindly got me a new best of CD for my birthday :D Yay!

Might have to go put it on now i fact....

i think it was done in memphis but she froze and it took a while to get her started. the whole story is in jerry wexler's fantastic autobiography "rhythm and the blues" cos he was the producer who set it up. i lost my copy ages ago and it's expensive second hand but it is a truly fantastic read.
