You never hear any good ones anymore. :eh? Jarvis's "cnuts are still running the world" was the best i've heard in ages. We still have the same old problems though, war, poverty, unemployment, capitilism etc.. are artists playing safe?
Any views on this?

The best for me is the stuff that Steve Earle has done. As Morrissey once said.....

"I thought that if you had an acoustic guitar,
It meant that you were a protest singer"

There has been some good ones, but some absolute shyte as well. I personally can't stand 'We shall Overcome'.

The Jarvis one in question is without a doubt my favourite, but I'm quite the fan of Elbow's 'Leaders of the Free World' too, written during the Bush reign of terror and featuring the line "we're passing the gun from father to feckless son" 8)

Would agree wholeheartedly on Steve Earle, some old protestors still at it

Crosby Stills Nash and Young toured Impeach the President and Young's Living With War lp.......Billy Bragg, though he's done a good job of making sure veryone knows he writes great love songs too is still good for a protest

One of my favourites is Eve OF Destruction

maybe the decline has to do with the absence of super tight white trousers in the modern firmament

Protest song's. They can so easily be very cliche. I haven't heard anything in ages..and I'm not sure I would check something out either, because of all the cheese around a lot of the more modern stuff I've come across.

I don't know but the old stuff from my youth I still love to bits.

A bit punk.

Cruise by Conflict still does it for me... though thankfully cruise is something very much of the past.

The Poison Girls..some right stuff there. Don't agree with all they say. But amazing all the same.

They're still there if you look hard enough. The man Billy Bragg took on tour with him last year:

Get under the skin of this and there are more than just great pop tunes:

Some old ones that I still "get" are: -

Universal Solder - (Buffy St Marie) Donovan

Ohio - CSN & Y

Keep Rockin' in the Free World - Neil Young
