I was played this a couple of years ago - released long before New Order's Blue Monday it's by Gerry And The Holograms another Manchester band - i've been told that it was actually by a chap who was quite advanced in age (50's?) in comparison to other new wave bands, so he'd be in his 80's now.

Don't know if I believe that, but I do believe New Order ripped it off.

Laydeez and gentlepeeps here's

It has a hint of Doctor Who about it.

On another note i've always thought U2 ripped Joy Division off on this song, well the start anyway.

Joy Division - I Remember Nothing

U2 - Bullet The Blue Sky

both good songs though.

On a similar Joy Division /u2 note from the past,i remember u2 like many at that time being in awe of the music that joy division were producing.I remember in an interview bono stating that the song 'a day without me' was written about Ian Curtis.

Another little known 'rip off' is the classic White stripes song Seven Nation Army. The White Stripes are/were big fans of a band called Conflict.

Conflicts mid 80's single has more than passing resemblance in places.

the band was half the albertos i believe, but primarily my pal john scott. bazzin picker, he's not 80 yet or anywhere near it. he's seen you at mattnshreds with vic a couple of times twangy, i'll introduce you next time.

but better still is his band 48 chairs with the great tune "snap it around"
both these were played on a radio show of his favourite records frank zappa did for radio1 about that time. he played one contemporary tune followed by a doo-wop tune for an hour.

one other project john had around then was called "bet lynch's legs" with me ol pal mog on bass.
