First single I bought with my own money was You really got me by The Kinks. Think it was something like 4/10 from a record shop in George Square, Halifax (can't remember what it was called!)

First vinyl album I owned was Bob Dylan (it was either a birthday or Christmas present) I lent it out to someone and never got it back

First piece of vinyl i owned was this:

It still has 'Craig Allen Class 5' written on the back by my mum from when we were allowed to take records in to school on the last day of term.

First record i bought with my own money was this:

It hasn't got much better since.

The first vinyl album that i'm prepared to admit to that i remember buying was They Might Be Giants' Flood. There was definitely a Belinda Carlisle record before that though, and a few horrors erased from memory.

How the hell do you follow THAT??? :D

First single was 'Those were the Days' by Mary Hopkin - when I was about 9- - - my mate's dad won some money at Gosforth Park races and he gave us 15/- each (75p!!!!) - I was rich, rich beyond my wildest dreams. I bought that single for 5/- and bought a pair of blue sneakers with the rest of the money.

First album was The Sweet on one side with The Pipkins on the other - can't remember what it was called - closely followed by 'Cherish' by David Cassidy.

I really knew how to waste my baby sitting money.

First record bought.......David Bowie -Life On Mars, mainly because it had Mickey Mouse in the lyrics.I wandered around playing it over and over on one of these...

My only other record at the time (i was 10),was "Back Home" by the England 1970 World Cup squad.I remember people pissing themselves laughing at the odd little ginger kid with his toy record player. But i knew i was the coolest kid on the block. :D

Egyptian Reggae by Jonathan Richman. 197-something at the electrical goods retailer that also sold records near our house.

Mine I think was Goin Home by The Osmonds closely followed by Life On Mars by David Bowie and then I think most of T.rex's singles second hand :D

I didn't have any music of my own until I turned 20 (on which day my grandmother presented me with the two first albums by the Beatles on CD); before that, all music bought at home was shared, even if it was given on someone's birthday. The first vinyl single I ever bought with my own money was a second-hand reissue of Roy Orbison's "Sweet and Easy to Love" b/w "Devil Doll", which must have been kept in a hayloft, from the amount of straws inside the sleeve. And my first two vinyl albums (both bought on the same day) the Beatles' red and blue albums in red and blue vinyl.

Nevertheless, the first record I got on one of my birthdays (although, as I've said, it wasn't exactly mine) was this one:
