: I was a teenager in the 70s. At around 18 years I started listening to the sounds of the 1950 s.

I bought records by Gene Vincent , Eddie Cochran, the Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf. Some of Buddy Holly's song writing I felt then was closer to the Sixties than the Fifties. Maybe that's why John Lennon called him "the Master".However, there was also a lot of crap recorded in the 50's and early 60s. The Beatles put that right.

When I listen to Radio 1 now, some of the stuff on there is appalling. ; but as I say, there,s always been good and bad . I think also everything is good in small doses; too much of any one thing and your stuck in a rut.

Love Bowie and Bolan....no one goes forwards looking back....great music doesn't let the time it was made hold it back,it's the statements it makes and the little Windows into Our humanity that makes it eternal

Not all music is made for you/me.....turn it off or turn it up are your choices

Or go for a walk

In my humble opinion anyway

On the whole -I go along with that. You often hear some people say "chart music- crap" I often think that way_ and then you realise that was the case in previous times. Not all of it was good back then. I think if you can remember sounds from the 60s onwards then a lot of what you hear now will sound so-so.
there's still some good records being made though.

Loads of foks out there that put together great music that do not get massive radio air play - going to cheap live shows - listening to small FM / internet radio stations does the trick for me.

Two favourites :

Mystery Train Radio Show Sunday 10.00 pm Severn FM http://www.severnfm.com/

Standing In The Shadows Of Lev Saturday 09.00am ALL FM http://tunein.com/radio/All-FM-969-s37347/
