I read over the weekend that Cassettes are making a comeback, not sure why as they don't have
the clarity of a download or cd, or the depth and warmth of vinyl, anyway, here's a thought........
I still have 80 odd original cassettes but alas nothing to play them on, one of which is very on topic,
Bruce Springsteen, The River.

Someone out there with the know how, or the industry itself, should set up a website where you enter
a unique code from your 30, 40 year old cassette and you can then download the album for free.

It would self fund with the ubiquitous adverts.

Does this already exist?

If not, Registration, Business, Patent, Protection........Egg 01 20160226 ..>

How would you be planning on funding the time machine to go back and put the unique codes on the cassettes?

Pat Benatar  Precious Time, 1981, on Chrysalis ZCHR 1346 has 07127 stamped on one end
of the Cassette which, I assume, is unique!

Photo, email, proof............download please! ..>

To run the site admin...........99p per Cassette!

I think this has legs.......off to order my 488 Spyder! :Hoorah

At most they'd have had a catalogue number and a unit number, not a unique number as such. If you'd picked up the next copy it probably had 07128 on it if anything... Can you imagine how much it would have cost putting a unique number on labels? Numbered limited editions are usually hand stamped, and when you buy vinyl the download code is on a separate card not part of the packaging. Sorry to shatter your dreams like. :D

I hated cassettes they'd often come unraveled which drove me insane especially if it was one of my song writing tapes  although I did spend many happy times making compilation tapes for people that was good

Taping from the speakers to the mono cassette mic from an lp borrowed overnight and trying nott to make as noise..I always preferred the lp but tapes were a lifeline witth very small budget. Selectadisc in Nottingham when I was a student always seemed to have massive bargains on cassettes so I still have loads of tapes from then. The compilation tapes shared still resonate

The false economy of a C120 which always snapped...gigs off tyhe radio...Beatles at the Beeb...

I still have the tapes, somewhere, of an 8 part series on the radio, broadcast on a Sunday night when dad was watching TV. The TV interfered with the signal & the recordings fade & distort like the tide coming in & out, but I was desperate to hear it so would strain my ears to try & work out what was being said.

Ha ha, yes. The kids love the tapes these days. They love the VHS too. It's some kind of nostalgia thing, except that many of them were too young to even have used all of this dead media very much. But I think it's a sort of fondness for their 80s childhoods or something. I think it's kind of cute and endearing. :-) But I'm not going back, no way!

Now, I say that, but I have kept scads of cassettes. Some stuff never made it to CD, some stuff I never bothered replacing if it did. I've unloaded most of them, but I couldn't bear to part with the rest, even though it's been decades since I played any. And I will never give up my mixtapes. I loved making them, I loved getting them, and you know what? The younguns are making them now too! So funny. Where are they even getting the tapes??

Oh, but remember when you were crafting the perfect mixtape and somehow you miscalculated, and you'd have like two minutes left on a side, but you couldn't bear to leave it blank? What was your go-to song for that situation? Mine was always After Hours by VU. Trusty and always got the job done! :-)

Bought too many tapes in the 80s - if only I'd stuck to vinyl
