On Sunday May 27th, WagonWheel Presents… welcomes Whitehorse to The Greystones. Combining the musical forces of Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland, Whitehorse is the brand new band from the duo. Their self titled debut album is out now on Six Shooter Records. Support comes from Roaming Son. Advance tickets priced at £7 are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/152018 or entry on the night will be £9. Doors open 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

***WHITEHORSE***

Image

Six Shooter Records’ Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet tie the musical knot with the debut of their new band, Whitehorse, marrying their talent and chemistry on stage as a smoldering duo. Gutsy and resolute in their pursuits of sound and substance, Luke and Melissa’s fusion of the personal and professional brings to mind the road-tested romance of Johnny and June.

Individually, Luke and Melissa have been recognized with awards and nominations from the Juno Awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, the Independent Music Awards and Polaris. Together, Luke and Melissa create music that cascades forth, rushing like currents fluid and electric. More than the sum of considerable talents, Whitehorse showcases the rarity of true give and take in partnership, uniting falcon with songbird to dramatic effort.

Whitehorse breaks headlong and heartstrong in pursuit of it all, cards on the table, everything on the line. Luke and Melissa figure the odds the way travelers count miles, undaunted by twists and turns of luck and road, so let dice and wheel roll.

***ROAMING SON***

Image

Roaming Son are a Sheffield based band that mix earthy heartfelt vocals with twangy dirty guitars, greasy bass and jungle drums to create a sound that is influenced by the classic rock’n’roll recordings of the 50′s / 60′s but while adding a distinctive modern flavour. From brash to beautiful, the sound of chainsaws & rainbows. Tonight however they will be performing a stripped down duo set.

Really looking forward to this one,
Caught Luke & Melissa (as a duo and seperately) a few times at Craig's nights at the grapes a few years ago at the Grapes (one of Craig's nights) and they just blew me away. fantastic harmonies, great tunes and Luke is probably one of the best guitarists i have seen in a long time.
well worth catching, definately not one to be missed,

It's a great pleasure to be supporting them too! :D

I'm dying to see Whitehorse, just tracked them down doing support to Neil Casal so looking forward to that.
I love both of them as seperate artists so it's going to be great seeing them together.

Really fancy this one. Hope to be there but I'll be running in the Sheffield Half Marathon that morning so I hope my legs aren't too stiff to get me up the hill....

And its Johnny Dowd the night before for anyone who likes their rock n roll unpredictable :rambo:

Yep - well done 'Lightning' Lyall and Tim Lee - for a great set - jeeez it were 'ot...

Love the harmony thing Whitehorse have - favourite tunes for me being the stripped down 'simpler' ones - the encore in the dark well that just canna be beat - a whole set like that next time?

Soz i didnt get to have a chat with you Andrew, you'd left before i got chance!

Was a top night, the last time i saw them it was just acoustic / electric / vocals. none of the multi instrumental loop stuff. i think i prefered the simpler songs too,. especially the slow ballads. but the loops / effects sounded great when they kicked in, they lifted the heavier tunes (if you can call them heavier)! the harmonies were fantastic as well and i just love Melissa's voice. crystal clear.
and Luke's guitar playing....i just want to chop my finger off now.

Oh yeah, i'm gonna get Tim back for the Lighting comment too. chuff!
