If you're not adverse to seeing artists in an intimate setting, with a small attentive audience and no tipsy chatters to spoil things, then check out Sofar Sounds' website and sign up:

You get a list of cities and dates each month and register for whichever you fancy. An email will then confirm your place and give an indication of which area of the city the venue is in. 24 hours before the event you get the exact address but only find out who's playing when you arrive on the night itself. There are around 3 or so sets and you donate what you think it's worth or can afford.

It's a brilliant way to experience music so if it appeals, then sign up and support your local shows.

I've been to a couple of Sheffield shows - both had a slight Hawley connection in that Colin Eliot produced CDs of The Hosts and Laurel Canyons. Both were new to me but I really enjoyed them. Other sets included Neil McSweeney and Sam Sweeney, Johnny Cornish (Screaming Maldini), James Tait and the Canyon Family.

The Sept dates are due out soon!
