On Saturday May 30th, WagonWheel Presents… welcomes Roger Davies to Shakespeares. Having played our first show back in 2006, Roger returns to Sheffield in support of brand new album Local Radio, one of today’s most engaging singer songwriters. Support comes from Ian Bramall and more. Advance tickets priced at £6 are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/298800 or entry on the night will be £8. Doors open 8pm. ***ROGER DAVIES*** Roger Davies’ reputation has been growing rapidly over the past five years across his native Yorkshire. Progressing from songs about local characters and to Saturday nights out in local pubs to performances with Brighouse and Rastrick and Skelmanthorpe Brass Bands, his appeal has widened significantly. Known as the Yorkshire Songwriter and Bard of Calderdale he is the music equivalent of Yorkshire poet Ian McMillan, with words that resonate Yorkshire but contain universal themes of home, love, art and everyday life. Roger has performed at Beverley Folk Festival, Shrewbury Folk Festival and many others and makes frequent appearances on BBC Radio Leeds. “Beautiful songs. A bit like the Jimmy Webb of West Yorkshire” – Ian McMillan, BBC Radio 3 “The best thing I’ve seen in 20 years. If I had a torch I’d throw it to him“ Harvey Andrews “When Roger walked on stage to a sold out Square Chapel in Halifax, it quickly became obvious why this self styled ‘Yorkshire Songwriter’ commands such a strong following. His songs are a reflection of the world around us. His lyrics can be funny, as in ‘The Beerbelly Blues’, thought provoking or, as in his tender ballad ‘Stephanie’, simply exquisite.” Halifax Courier http://rogerdaviesmusic.com ***IAN BRAMALL/YELLOWCAKE*** Singer/songwriter Ian Bramall has been described as sounding somewhere between Richard Hawley and Mercury Rev, nineties indie with folk sensibilities. More recently he’s joined forces with Sarah Sharp in the duo Yellowcake. Half brooding folk, half silly pop, half bad maths, it is an ongoing experiment exploring the perimeters of audience heart strings and tear ducts. Yellowcake accepts no liability for any emotion either caused or not caused during audio contact. It does however accept compliments and sweeteners freely. And dispenses them too. “His self-deprecating manner endearingly flowed through his music as he sang lyrics in a distinct Sheffield accent” Now Then Magazine “Fabulous finger picking tunes with uplifting lyrics from an endearing performer” bbc.co.uk http://soundcloud.com/ian-bramall http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yellowcake/384830841692535 Facebook Event page: http://www.facebook.com/events/1545258905696664 |
