How long before we have the sad spectacle of one of the 'boys' keeling over and karking it from severe angina in front of 20,000 people? Its not right I tell you!!!

Brother's back at home
With his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
It was such a drag
Too many snags

not that keen on either.....not enough invention!

However if held at gunpoint the stones would get my vote.

GnR's sympathy for the devil beat the stones' though!

LP :Oink:

i wouldnt put it that strongly however both bands were hugely inventive i think that a lot of there inventiveness has been absorbed as the norm now so maybe that could explain your incorrect oppinion LP?

I like the Byrds a lot too, that whole era was very creative and i love a lot of stuff from that time.

I like 'em both, but if I had to choose it would be the Fabs, simply because their albums consistently outstrip the Stones' efforts of the same period, until you get to Beggars Banquet, and from that through to Exile... the Stones were never better.

There were definitley some good songs on the early albums, but they saved their killer tracks for the 45s.

Anyone going to see them next month? I'm off to the MENA in Manchestoooor. I'm practically in the car park, but I'm sure it'll be a good 'un.

I think the Stones have turned into a big daft OAP caricature of themselfs......no dignity!

Not that they had a lot to start with, mind you. I don't suppose it was really the point.

When did they last have a top 20 single?

1995, with their not-unlistenable version of 'Like a Rolling Stone'. But their only self-penned Top 20 hit in the last 21 years(!) was 'Love Is Strong'.

Their incessant touring is just a huge money-making circus!! I mean a 60 yr old prancing about like summat not reight, shouting "I'm jumping Jack flash"!!!............Pack it in you sad old man!

I'm a Beatles man all the way. But a workmate is going to see the Stones soon, so he's (rashly) attempting to familiarise himself with the entire catalogue and he insists on lending me some of the CDs, which has led me to the conclusion that I like the Stones a little bit more than I thought.
I'm listening to Metamorphosis at the moment, and I even made it through almost half of Bridges to Babylon.
There are still far too many bad Stones records though.

By the way has anyone heard Fat Boy Slim's remix of Sympathy for the Devil? I don't think he should have bothered myself, waste of time.

I've heard the Neptunes remix, which is pony.
But then I think the Neptunes are a bit overrated and the original record is very overrated, so I wasn't expecting a lot. I was expecting a bit more effort though.

Unbearbale cack! It loses all the menace, it just sounds like your usual jolly Fatboy jaunt, which is not the point with that song.

Leave well alone!

How are we to know you are being sarcastic, when it is typed? We miss the benefit of ironic tones of voice! You seem to like emoticons alot, why not employ their cheeky help?

cuz I didn't think they were needed, cuz how can the beatles and the stones not be inventive?!?!?!?! They pretty much started it all!

The kinks are underrated in that era though. They were better than them both!!

I was thinking the same thing. We should have a The Byrds vs Buffalo Springfield vote as well. I've never cared much about The Beatles, so I'd have to vote for The Stones.

What about The Men They Couldn't Hang? Or the erm...Nitty Gritty Dirt Band?
