Mark Eitzel - isn't that the singer of American Music Club? I would love to hear them live sometime. And just 30 people in the audience, sounds great.

Right, Ida, that's him. - An audience of only 30 people in a hall that takes 300 was a bit disappointing though...

caught Monkey Swallows The Universe at the Raynor Lounge last night and lovely it was too. Always been quite fond of their recorded stuff (viva la Alan Smyth!) but last time I saw them - quite some considerable time ago - they were dreadful live. They're still quite endearingly ramshackle but have improved considerably, lovely songs and a lovely atmosphere. Would recommend them to any Hawley fans who missed them when they supported him on tour last year. There's a single out on the 23rd and an album out later in the summer. www.mstu.co.uk

Having splashed some cash out, my next three are......

Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter (one of the best 'americana' bands)
Marissa Nadler (nu-folk heroine)
Au Revoir Simone (all girl synth band and really looking forward to this one)

My last gig was their show at the Leadmill and they were great. My next will be the Hellset Orchestra on Saturday night (assuming I can stay awake - doors don't open 'til 10 and I'm usually in bed by then).

Camera Obscura were just wonderful last night. Go and see them, you won't regret it!

It was good to see they got along well with our peculiar, stubborn Westphalian temper. :*:

I also enjoyed playing the part of local Hawleyboard delegation and talking to Carey after the show. Hope you'll have a good time on the rest of your tour, too!

Next gig in line: that crazy Bobby Conn. Should be a laugh. Or two and a half.

That reminds me I bought the new album and only played it once - that goes on the player next.

Enjoy.
