i don't often go on about this stuff but i do believe animal experiments to be a bit much and most of them are unecessary if you want to help and change things this is how to do it,this isn't some fringe group full of nutters its the RSPCA

I just filled in the postcode bit rather than opening an account - hope that was right! :?

About time some of these laws were changed.

Thanks for that Richard. We tend to forget that animals don't have a voice or choices. Many years ago, I worked for Agfa Gevaert. They have an animal testing laboratory somewhere near the bottom of the M40. It was in the grounds of a beautiful stately home sort of building, but was a horrendous place. I only visited once and left the company shortly afterwards because of that visit.

I maybe being contraversal here but i'm not against animal testing.

That said i do NOT believe in unnessisary suffering or curelty. I do NOT believe in using animals for tests if there is an alternative and i do NOT believe that animals that have little relevence to humans should be used. I also do NOT believe that animals should be used for any testing other than medical reasons and again ONLY if there is no other alternative. It is through animal testing that we have transplant surgery, namely heart transplants which were tested on pigs, which led to pig hearts being transplanted into humans and finally human to human transplant.

While in the past we were not technologically advanced enough to find or invent plausable alternate testing we are becoming so. I fully believe that we should do so, but not in a rushed way. Thalidomide was tested on rats who showed no ill side effects and was rushed through for human use.

I strongly believe that the laws need reviewing and in many places need to be changed.

I have done the postcode thing. Cheers to Richard for posting the link. :D

Fully agree that some animal testing is inevitably necessary for medical advancement. I feel very strongly about cosmetic testing though. We should surely have enough 'ingredients' that are known to be safe to avoid unnecessary suffering?
