It's awful quiet tonight. Is there a party on somewhere?

I can't be an insomniac tonight, I have work in the morning. :(

I don't know much about engines anyway.

Is that a piston??? Looks like some sort of medieval torture instrument to me ... something painful :?

No come on loftyeric, I really really really   do want to understand the workings of your piston. What is it's purpose? What does it do? Why would you use? How can you use it? What is the point of it? ... ... might be something there about industrialised nations and all that important adam smith economics stuff going on ... but never mind, I want your interpretation of the importance of the piston and why you chose to post it .... :*:

... you regretting the post yet?

I know the diffference between a two-stoke and a four stroke engine. :D

I'm sure that is not really impressive.

We-e-e-ll. The piston, in the internal combustion engine, moves within the cylinder. and is connected - via the connecting rod 'con rod', to the crankshaft. When the petrol/air mixture from the carburetter is drawn into the cylinder it is compressed by the piston (the valves having closed).
Almost at the top of this compression stroke the spark plug fires & burning gases force the piston downwards on its power stroke. The crankshaft rotates, and the movement is transmitted, via the transmission, to the wheels of the vehicle. In other words - it makes yer car go. And piston is a funny word at this time of night :*:
