I wonder if the huge musical knowledge of the forum could help. I'm planning my last economics lesson of the year with my y10s, and I thought I'd do a music and economics lesson. Could anyone give me some original suggestions for music linked to things like recession, boom, inflation, that kind of thing - so far we've come up with Status Quo's 'Down down' for going down into recession, D-Ream ' things can only get better', Louis Armstrong ' what a wonderful world' for a boom time, - I was going to put hyperlinks into You Tube, but they're only 14 so could do with some musical education!! I've got about an hour and its better than bingo, or a stupid quiz....

Thanks in advance.... I'm getting giddy at the thought of one more week before the summer......

I reckon your average Y10 would get into this. Contains some anti capitalist polemic.

Now Dave ... please don't go the route of melancholia ... I think we all know where that leads ... :(

Anyhow, songs ....

Great Leap Forward - Billy Bragg
Pretty Green - The Jam
Smithers-Jones - The Jam
Taxman - Beatles

got to be something by The Levellers too ... and I'd go for Shipbuilding either Robert Wyatt version or Costello ... which has me thinking that you should dig out some Robert Wyatt for anti-capitalist stuff too.

  .... I so need to dig out my old vinyl :*:
