ok,

well just been reading the forum after having a shit busy week where I havent really had so much time to be on here and what has struck me is the amount of random conversations going on in mulitple threads about nothing much in particular, nights in, going out, insomniacs, the weather etc.... ok thats fair enough, fine if people want to talk about that stuff fine but can we please keep it to one topic and not litter the whole forum with this stuff ? To do so I think it would be a good idea maybe to kick off a Hawleyboard Pub topic or Night In or whatever its not important what its called but whoever wants to could then head in there and natter away to your hearts content about whatever.

At the moment we have tedium corner, insomniacs corner, friday night in, the weather and probably others. They all boil down to the same thing people just having a natter about their day whatever and nothing in particuar so the idea is that in future if we can keep this sort of stuff to one topic it would be much appricated as it helps keep the forum a bit more organized and interesting on the whole. I hate to get all admin on anyones arses here and I loathe having to delete stuff or lock topics but if people cant have respect for everyones interest of the forum thats the way things are going to have to be so if we can all be cool and think of everyones enjoyment here ?

I'm for that - a new folder is an excellent idea - and it'll stop any complaints too!

hey eoin........what about a new forum where people can chat about nothing, you could call it 'the launderette' or 'over the garden wall' or something like that?

... but would that mean the fantasy football thread would have to go too ... and all of the delightfully amusing threads Dave provides for our entertainment? ... and there was me thinking "misc" and "rant" were the equivalent of the proposed new folder ... or alternative universe forum ...

... just being cheeky mind ... but I am wondering how many posts have been about the irrelevance of irrelevant posts ... and whether we might all just be clogging up the forum with more posts of irrelevant chatter ... and if we hadn't started on this subject whether there might be several hundred less posts on irrelevance ... .... just a thought

Why fix it if it aint broke??? This forum in the words of the man himself " Is a place to have a laugh, take the piss and generally talk bollocks" personally I dont bother with the weather so I dont look at the thread, but if that's what people want to talk about in misc then they can rap to their hearts content. If folks are comfortable coming on here after midnight for a ramble, then leave them to it in 'insomniacs'. It's a forum....a place for discussion on anything. I sometimes avoid some of the more 'serious discussion/music' threads as they can frankly bore the tits off me and it's there that arguments are more likely to start over wether Chuck Berry looked better in 1959 in checked trousers rather than plain. Dont start annexing the forum, it's not what it's about. We'll just end up with people leaving and maybe even a rival Hawleyboard being started. ........and before you jump down my throat...NOOOO I wouldnt start that!!!

I think there needs to be a degree of slack generally though. Conversations do drift.

Forums work best when they are policed by members. Have you had many complaints about topics being too airy or drifting? Is it up to forum members to remind people to get back on topic?

I certainly wouldn't want the forum to get all serious and have 101 threads about music and one dumping ground for talking shite.

But, a section for aimless witter for us aimless witterers would be fun. I guess this thread is the best way of gauging views and testing the strength of feeling.
