Bless your hearts. I had a top day with my other half and my family, lots of alcohol was involved.......I found turning 45 weird, much worse than turning 40! Truly feels middle aged I don't know why!

Anyway I'm over it now, I started Uni today and lost count of the number of people who said they couldn't believe I was 45 and most put me in my mid-late 30's. One girl said 'you look younger than my Mum, and she's 37' I've got clothes in my wardrobe older than some of my fellow students.
I had to take my GCE certificates in today and there were howls of laughter when the younger ones noticed I took my exams in 1985, a good decade before a lot of them were even born!

Anyway I went into town after and bought myself some new clothes with my student loan money, including a pair of leather trousers, ready for when I hit the town with them. I intend to fully embrace student life and all it has to offer even if I'm 30 years later than my peers!

Terribly late I know but Happy Birthday none-the-less (*)

Have you just started at Bradford University? I went there cough-cough years ago. Had a great time. Please tell me they still have the FND (Friday Night Disco) in the Union. Although thinking about it the music was terrible, but at least the beer was cheap. I know the pub we used to drink in - The Shearbridge - has closed down and I still can't work out why - across the road from campus and halls of residence, right next to lots of back to back terraces full of students, serves chip butties at lunch time - how'd that happen???

Oh well. Times change. Have a fab time at university wherever you're studying. And good on you for doing it xxx

Caroline I'm studying in Bradford but doing my degree through the college not the Uni. It's a bit convoluted but I'm really glad because there are only 35 in my cohort as opposed to 70+ at the Uni and we get a lot of support, it's a much more nurturing environment. I'm loving it already. The Macmillan campus where I'm based is a stones throw from the Uni buildings and we frequent the same boozers as the Uni students. I'm looking forward to my student discount in the shops and lots of nights out. Oldest swinger in town!

We went to some gigs at the college - most notable being Jools Holland and his Big Band - 25 pounds for a ticket (no pound sign on an australian keyboard so sorry for long-windedness) and free bar all night. Not sure what was the best bit - the music or the absolute joy of ordering drinks at the bar and walking away without paying. It was a top night.
Not sure I would find my way round Bradford any more tho'. It's nearly 20 years since I graduated  and I don't think the Macmillan campus was there when I was (just looked at google maps), or maybe it was just halls of residence. Can't remember. But looks like you're pretty close to the Westleigh. Is Pickwicks still going? I still have my membership card in my purse I think - just in case. Tumblers on Tumbling Hill Street was also a favourite (what a top name and address for a pub!!). Ah - getting all soppy and reminiscent. So envious of you...enjoy...
