Maybe I should go to a forum on ornithology, but I'm sure someone here can tell me what kind of bird this is:

I saw plenty of them when I was in London last August in a very unexpected and almost improvised trip, but I have no idea what they are. I don't know whether they are typical of England, or at least of the North of Europe, but I hadn't seen them before.

(The next thing you'll tell me they are all over the world, and are more common than sparrows, magpies or pigeons .)

Looks like a crow or a jackdaw to me, whatever it is it's just a young one

That's a young female blackbird.

Thanks for all your answers (even the serious ones). I think the young female blackbird is the right one... Which I should have guessed, by the way . I've seen plenty of them, male and female, but never a young one (we have a couple of blackbird families in our garden, but the young ones are never out, maybe for fear of cats). And certainly they never let people approach that much. I recognize them because of the way they walk and sing, but those I saw in London didn't walk the same way (they're probably still learning), and didn't open their beaks to say a word. So maybe it's time I should pay attention to other features, too...

Thanks! I thought I was never going to find out!

I was going to tell you, but it would have been a disappointment after Craig's prize. Not sure, is that edible? Or is it earthenware?

Rudely awoken this morning by what sounded like world war three. Turned out to be scaffolding going up around the house next door, for their new roof. Scaffold has to cross my roof. Noise & vibration went on for three hours

I'm off to Glasgow next week to follow my favourites Mott The Hoople - I have emailed the Solid Rock Bar for a list of Rose Wines - they have not got back to me yet...

They probably have Chateau Bonnet 2010 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon Rose on draught - under the counter...
