Blimey that's shocked me - what a terrible shame! Saw him at Royal Albert Hall a few years back doing 'Berlin' and he was amazing. RIP Mr Reed and thankyou.

A legend. I learnt so much from Lou Reed. I learnt it's not all about hitting the right note, it's about showing your heart, your dreams, your worries. Lou was always cool and will always be so because his music was about art, creativity and meaning, not just image or musical fashion. You were a giant Lou. Travel well.

I have a major neurological illness and I have been a guitarist and singer since I was fourteen, some forty years but when I became ill I lost the midrange in my voice, which was where I sang, things were a bit shaky too. So I stopped singing, went over to instrumental groove music. Then some years on I saw a program about Lou Reed and his album 'Transformer', Lou sang some of the songs with just an acoustic. He was often well off key but he was still great. I understood something from that, I learnt that it's not all about pitch (if only they understood that on X-factor, we might actually get something interesting on there). I got my guitar out and started singing again, now I'm out gigging again and really enjoying it. That's made my life better. Interestingly with a Parkinsons type illness such as I have, I discovered music frees you up, overrides the part of the brain that causes the problem apparently. So I have a lot to thank Lou for!
