What a shock. What a loss to music. Massive talent, original and creative. Stunned. RIP David Bowie x

Really shocked - knew he'd had health problems but not prepared for this. Rest in peace.

At the cutting edge of absolutely everything. Led music, style, and always into the unknown sometimes crazy but seemed to be able to anticipate the mood and appetite for challenging norms.
One of my early recollections of gigging when my older cousins somehow got me into the George in Beckenham High Street to watch DB in one of those early incarnation folk-misc bands.
I am truly shocked and an artist that I genuinely grew up with through my adolescent years has gone, so young.
RIP David, now pushing the next boundary. Farewell musical friend/genius.

So, so sad. His music seems to have been part of my life, for most of my life. Such a loss to the world.

There's a direct line from David Bowie to everything you love. Whether you realize it or not. A true artist who kept moving, only looking onwards and forwards, reinventing himself, never resting on his laurels, never phoning it in, continuing to surprise and inspire and influence everyone. That will always be true. He will be constantly and continually referenced in art and music and fashion forever. Thank you for everything. Thank you for always being you... only you...each and every one of you.

First saw him on the Serious Moonlight tour - me and a mate from school snagged a lift down from Stoke as far as Oxford then hitch-hiked the rest of the way to Milton Keynes Bowl - we slept underneath a prefab portaloo as it started raining, but we managed to get in first and get down the front. Next saw DB on the Glass Spider Tour at Maine Road, which was very showbiz, but in a weird way. The final time that I saw him was when he played the Outsider Tour in 1995 at the NEC in Birmingham on 20th November - with a certain Steven Patrick Morrissey providing support.

An artist who was always thoughtful and intelligent and for so long ahead of the game. He will be sorely missed.

What a great shame. Although I never followed him closely his music seemed always to be there & always something you could listen to & respect. A genuine, sincere musician without doubt.

Misery in our house yesterday morning. My other half loved Bowie, in fact, we often joked that, even though he is achingly straight, my bloke might have made an exception for Bowie. He thought him beautiful and as a teenager, was his clone, with the sharp suits and bequiffed hair, the epitomy of eighties cool, Martin Fry-esque in his zoot trousers and shirt and tie.

Had to explain to the kids why their dad had been reduced to tears by the news, which was difficult.

Think for lots of people, it felt like the death of their youth, which is why they were so sad. Especially from someone who was unflinchingly cool and seemingly ageless. We are feeling a bit sorry for ourselves too. xx

He was brilliant,we have most of his records and we love them all, massive influence on so many people...of all walks of life....I think he made a lot of young people Unafraid to be different and be themselves which is hugely important and something severely lacking now,he was like the child of Judy Garland and Ornette Coleman....and all points between we're on his radar,he managed that almost impossible tightrope walk of being interesting, oblique, defiantly artistic but popular and often populist at the same time but still keeping his mystery as well....truly brilliant.
