I was somewhat in shock, but it caused a lot of amusement to my colleagues.

I got back from the doctors office yesterday (my 7 yr old has the flu, the insurance company wouldn't pay for Tamiflu to prevent my 6 yr old from getting it....fucking wankers, so I was in a foul mood over having to shell out for that) but I got home to a huge vase full of tulips and balloons sitting at the front door, he could probably have bought me 6 CD's for what it cost him, but I was very happy. We never really celebrated it since he broke up with me on Valentines day 13 years ago  But I suppose it is time to forgive...he has paid for his mistakes many times over by now

It's still all a load of bollocks though.

i buy flowers for my mrs at random times throughout the year and hate it when my buttons are pushed by commerce at the best of times i have of course bought her some flowers today but she did make me laugh, she said"you daft bugger why didn't you wait till tomorrow they'll be rare cheap and we can have twice as many, and chocs too for nowt"

Dats ma goyl

I like her cynical approach to such things,it removes the guilt issue and is rather zen i reckon

Reading this thread there seems to be a definite difference between you guys that live further up north........... you're all much nicer!!

All the guys that I've ever known (including a lot of my married friends and members of my family even) would rather suffer splinters under the fingernails than buy (or admit to buying) any kind of token for their other halves on valentines day................ :*:

I'm very lucky like that - I often get home from work to find fresh flowers beautifully arranged somewhere in the house. And I had some rather delicious chocolates on Monday.

I'm taking him out for a meal tonight.

Oh well, to let the northern side down - we've a pact to not bother this year - we've recently added so many datesthat do mean something to us personally - wedding anniversary, kid's birthday etc that it does seem a bit much to be pushed into it.

That doesn't mean flowers will not be forthcoming on other days - tomorrow sounds like a top tip!

Absolutely. I'm going to jump on the stereotype band wagaon here, so sorry if I offend anyone.....

Us northerners may come across as hard nosed gits who think nothing of calling even their bestest of mates cnuts and ripping them to shreds at every given opportunity - but underneath it all I reckon we're complete soft-arses, who want nothing but good things and happy times for the people who mean stuff to us.

 Erm. I'll shut up now.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
