The View - Hats Off to the Buskers
Maps - We Can Create
Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold
Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future
Jamie T - Panic Prevention

Anyway it's that time of year again just wondering who will get the prize - wonder if the judges will be brave enough to go for the Artic Monkeys for a second year running.....

lets have our own poll and see whether we agree with the judges

And grace is just the measure of a fall.

I like the Amy Winehouse best of those nominated (from what I've heard), but fear that her legs might snap if she has to walk up to accept the award.

Another vore for Winehouse...the name is too appealing. Think the Rehab alone is a fantastic record

Amy Winehouse for me too.

Disappointed not to see the following on the list though

The Good, The Bad & The Queen
Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur
Aliens - Astronomy For Dogs
Jarvis
Acoustic Ladyland - Skinny Grin
Candie Payne - I Wish I Could Have Loved You More

Mond you, I still would have wanted Amy to win if those had been included.

amy has the strongest vibe, mind you i've only heard hers and the artics records so i can't comment on the other nominations.

the list is always rubbish, and of recent years they havent even made good choices from their shortlist - but then awards are naff arent they, theyre just there as a talking shop anyway...

for me, theres several good records, but the ones that should win are jamieT or bat for lashes.

Erm you meant to say "apart from last year" there, didn't you?

List are always rubbish. Actually the Mercury tends to be far less rubbish than most. I own four of those albums And there's not that many I'd have put on in preference. Well, maybe five or six...

I agree. I'm backing Amy - but I do wish she would get herself sorted out. I'm worried if she doesn't, she'll end up another of those awful music statistics to join the likes of Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison et al. Come on, Amy, be nicer to yourself and take your finger off the self-destruct button! :(
