I dont know anyone who would consider watching Arsenal boring. They are a very flawed side alright but boring ? come on ! As for Davies, give him a go I am sure if he banged in a couple tonight you'd be singing is praises but I am inclined to agree with Craig, the physcality of his game will not go down well with European refs. I'd maybe start him ahead of Heskey though, who is basicially shite Crouch is your man. Anyway i don't care I'll be to busy watching our lot get giving Slovakia a sound beating

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

I mean watching 90 passes with no end result can get a tad boring.
The reason i used Arsenal as an example is that when they play against teams with a similar style they normally roll them over, but they don't like playing a more direct no nonsense team. They play this frustrating almost aloof version of football that is nothing like what i condsider to be way England should play.
The recent England teams have tried to play like Arsenal and got nowhere near to their undoubted skill levels but they have had about as much success...i.e...won nothing.
A lot of this thread for me is about not liking what is happening to our game. You won't be allowed to go within three yards of a player soon if FIFA & UEFA get their way.It will be tippy tappy football played by tippy tappy people.
For me Davies' style of play should be the future for England not considered to be a liability.

I've no problem with hard and fair, and not suggesting for a minute we should be ridding the game of challenges, but Davies is downright dirty.

That's my whole point, all English winning teams historically have been full of his type of player. That's what we need not apologists like Heskey.

'All'? Did we win something before 1966 as well? And the game now and then is hardly comparable.

Lost one game all year. Draw is hardly a disaster. All still in our hands and we'll still qualify. Biggest shame is that no good pikey cnut has an England cap to his name now.

:*:

i understand what you mean, LD:

As foreigners, we saw English style of play not so much as dirty, but as tough, no nonsense, fast paced. cross it and score (ex Robson's goal against france, spain 82).

Whereas nobody refers to english style anymore.
And too many foreigners in the league (and an italian coach!) may have something to do with it.
Harry Redknapp would be a great england coach, no?

This debate for me was not whether Davies himself should play but should he not play because of his physical style.
When Craig said he should'nt get anywhere near an England shirt because he's a dirty cynical player,i thought that's exactly why he should play. He's a big, skillful, clever and traditional English player....just the type we need right now.
Bryan Robson....dirty cynical bastard, also one of the best ever England players.
Last nights game,we were easily contained by Montenegro (Pop.650,000),who bossed and bullied our prima donnas and got the job done.Again we had no answer and didn't show any desire and didn't realise that we might have to scrap for a win until the last 10-15 mins.
I wish i didn't care.
As for Harry Redknapp,he's the only credible candidate we have but the F.A. will probably use his tax evasion as an excuse not to give him the job.
Right, back to fiddling my own tax forms.
Woe fucking woe!!! :*:

It's not just because of his physical side. It's because he's not good enough. Hence the only thing in his locker being kicking lumps out of people.
