He was an inspiration to a whole generation of golfers - me included.
He was my ultimate sporting hero and his swashbuckling, flamboyant almost daredevil style will never be matched.
How can anyone who watched his celebrations on the 18th at St Andrews when he holed a birdie putt to win The Open ever forget his joyful, youthful, exuberent manner?
Sevvy was 'one of us' - a golfer who played the game because he enjoyed it not for the money.
I heard someone explain his wayward style as 'Hit the ball - Find it - hit it again!'
I found an abandoned dog almost 22 years ago and had set my heart on calling HER Sevvy but my other half vetoed that idea saying that she couldn't see herself shouting 'SEVVY!' across the park after her!
Oh well - I tried.
Rest in Peace Amigo.

For me,this shot sums him up.............
