My nerves were shattered until half time yesterday.It shows what a tough league that is.
Sorry for the Blackpool fans,let down by their gung ho manager.

Bit unfair to criticise Holloway for being gung ho, that's what Blackpool fans have enjoyed about him as manager and how they got into the Premier League in the first place. If they wanted only to survive, come what may then they needed a different manager, a different style of play and would in all likelihood have been relegated anyway because they wouldn't have won enough games and 38 draws don't keep you up. Like any manager he made mistakes in the season but he did a lot of good things too. Their lack of strength in depth was their real downfall as it was difficult for them to keep the pace they set going throughout the season. Blackpool made the decision not to risk their club's future and buy in expensive players on long contracts, they held on to Charlie Adam in January to give them a chance of suurvival and that was the biggest financial risk they took.

Martinez too almost paid the price for playing an expansive attacking game based on passing and skill but Wigan survived.

I was pleased for Mick McCarthy stay up. I'm always sad that he wasn't taking over as Sunderland manager when Quinn took over. He did a good job for us - promotion and an FA Cup semi final, then Bob Murray left him with the shitty end of the stick in the Premier League. We had one of the worst seasons in our history under Mick but with better backing I'm confident he would have done a lot better. He retains his dignity, has a sense of humour and his sides actually play much better football than they are given credit for, especially by two faced bastards like Wenger who never sees his side's dirty side.

West Ham needed to go down for lots of reasons. I live in West Ham territory and am sick of the "we play the game the right way...Bobby Moore..." spiel . Yes, that'd be the right way that means you get beaten and play miserably all season. The Tevez affair was atrocious and they are like a dog that needs putting down. I would genuinely like them to find a bit of thier heart and soul next season and perhaps rebuild the club in a more positive light though with Gold,, Sullivan and Brady at the helm it is I fear likely to be more pantomime and ignorance. They still have the most boisterous support in London which makes them stand out as all the rest are absolutely shit - Arsenal of course taking the prize with their old cardboard cut out crowd at Highbury the noisiest they've ever had.

Never liked Brum and always good to see Alex McLeish and Barry Ferguson suffering.


I'm just relieved there weren't another three or four games to go, Sunderland might have dropped the rate we were going

They didn't have the players to play any other way. If they'd tried to be defensive with the squad they had they would have been down by Christmas. Aside from coming up one point shy i think they did everything right. That one point makes a hell of a difference like but they've had a hell of a ride.

Why is it unfair?
He did remarkably well getting Blackpool into the Prem and credit to him and the players for their start to the season.But,he's been a manager for a long time and surely watched previous Prem seasons as every year the teams relegated have been slagged off for their defensive frailties throughout the season.
Maybe Holloway and his chairman expected to go staight back down and decided not to spend any money(to take the £40 million tv money and the £48 million parachute payments) and to have a cameo season entertaining the neutrals.If not,and he thought he could stay in the prem playing his gung ho style,then he is a naive manager who should be rightly critisized.
The Blackpool fans i talked to this season were desperate for Holloway to change his tactics.They should have won both games aginst us but instead of shutting up shop with 10 mins to go,he brought on two more strikers.If he'd have done what any normal manager would have done,they would still be in the prem and we would be down.....................hmmmmm,i've changed my mind,i love him now.

Blackpool appointed Holloway because they thought he would do a good job for them and he did and does. His attitude is to try and play attacking football and very nearly kept them up. Their decline was to do with the size of their squad in addition to the limitations of some of their players but Holloway worked with that and tried to encourage his players to play positively. As Craig pointed out, he just didn't have the squad to change the style to something that may have gained them a couple more draws but quoite likely, no more wins. Holloway will have seen plebty of other sides approach the Premier League with damage limitation in mind and their fans have been left with few moments of the absolute pleausre that a single win in football against the odds can give you. I just feel you jumped on Holloway a bit and maybe the biggest questions should be asked of Avram Grant. Yes, terrible ownership and financial issues, but a team full of internationals and the opportunity to make significant changes in January.

I'd have loved West Ham to stay up, purely because of the shocking way Grant had been treated by their board. He was almost out on his ear in January, and i'd be interested to know how much say he had in any of their signings. Robbie Keane never looked like his choice for starters.

Grant was treated badly for sure, his record before Jnauary didn't look very clever. Their form actually improved quite considerably from January to March and Ba's signing with Hitzlsperger fit looked like it might even save them. Keane has looked a shadow of his former self and has hardly been fit during his loan spell.
