I know this has been news for a while, just finished watching Newsnight and it strikes me as total and utter insanity, forget the allegations of corruption for a moment........consider this for a second..........who in their right mind or even just on the edge of sanity would think it a great idea to host a World Cup finals in a country with only one city,no infrastructure resembling even remotely anything like even the most basic level,an iffy human rights record,NO alcohol apart from a few exclusive hotel bars.......i mean come on its footy you want to have a beer right?............just think England,German,er.......99% of ANY other nations fans.........nightmare..........you can get 7 years in prison for being pissed...............oh and its at least 50 degrees in the shade.

Didn't they think to consult someone in the medical profession at the very least?Imagine just standing still in that heat,i have been in some savagely hot places in my time and i cannot imagine even for a fleeting crazed moment that i would run about for 90+ minutes in that heat.......and thats just the players lets not forget the bloody crowd.......christ...............even with this nonsense about air conditioning in a stadium
:eh?

In a car with AC......correct me if i have my facts/science wrong here...........don't you have to have all the windows closed for it to work?If you have all the windows open......its pointless........you can't air condition a country............they may not be corrupt but they ARE totally fucking mental to vote for this bid...........thought i would er....flag it up.

I reckon some serious money must have changed hands. Agree it's totally insane to host a World Cup there.

I think as far as aircon goes they were on about having stadiums with a roof, or American 'dome' style shite. So indoor football basically, which is wrong enough in it's own right.

In recognition of the new international sporting standards though, the IOC have just announced the 2012 Men's 100 metres final is going to be held in Endcliffe Park.

I am currently working in Qatar, the place is very corrupt, although not easily seen, there are many deals done on contracts by the ruling families, they are a very rich nation due to the gas reserves. Richest country in the world per capita head - the rest of the nation are expats either building the place or working in the oil and gas sector.

The construction going on here is insane and in 10 years time they will have the infrastructure to host the cup - - but they have a lot to do to be ready for the world cup in terms of organisation and logistics. I am sure some fat cat consultants will make a lot of money out of advising them.

When the decision was announced I nearly pissed myself laughing.

Bribes for Votes - never :*:

Best thing about Qatar ? Qatar Airways

Oh and by the way - there are rumours here that they are already offering tallented african and south american kids families luxury lifestyles / villas / cars in exchange for them becoming Qatari Nationals so they can play in their team in 10 years time.

Out of interest does anyone know if the World Cup has ever been held in Scandinavia or Russia or somewhere cold? Seems like it's always being held in hot countries. Personally I'd like to see it in Iceland.

Was in Sweden once, 1950 i think, you'd have to ask Poppy Dog or Little Dickie really.

Sweden 58 -Pele's first World Cup. Not Scandinavian but Switzerland in 54 is canny cold. I am trying not to think about Qatar, the more I do the less chance I'll live long enough to see it. It's entirely wrong. If they had an indigenous football league and a popualtion to support it I'd just about get it but like this........no way, just corrupt

Should have realised it was '58, knew Pele had played there. Think it was the last time Wales played anywhere.

It snowed in Montevideo during the 1930 world cup in Uruguay..............Poppy Dog told me he watched it on telly.

I'm hoping to see a fair few people taking a sneaky swig out of the brown paper bag.
