Anyone going to the pub before this one?

I was going to suggest The Belvedere...

However would bow to folks with local knowledge...

Otherwise I'll sit in the car and neck a few cans like I did before a Nick Lowe gig earlier this year

The Philharmonic Dining rooms - stunning looking boozer - with famous bogs as well.

There are some crackers.....

The Phil is worth a visit - it's just oposite the venue and Mr H says it is a favourite of his.

Nearby are The Fly in The Loaf (100 yards down Hardman Street) and The Roscoe Head (tucked away off Hardman Street on the right if heading from the Philharmonic).

The Belvedere is a good pub (behind the Philharmonic) though one half was closed last time I dropped in about six months ago.

Others worth considering are Ye Cracke, an old haunt of The Beatles we're told, but you can get some odd creatures in there, also The Pilgrim, about 400 yards from the venue.

If you are eating I recommend The Quarter, where I'm taking the family before the show (so you may want to avoid it). It is very relaxed, friendly young staff, good food. Or if you fancy getting smoochy and you've got a few quid The Side Door is excellent. The Everyman bistro, just a short walk along Hope Street from the Philharmonic, is great.

That's it then i] Cracke ii] Quarter iii] Belvedere iv] Caledonia v] Phil.

We shall commence imbibement [?] tomorrow dinnertime

Seriously - we'll take a peek at The Quarter as it appears to be in the same area as a Chip Shop I used to frequent in my days as an 70's Art School Pre Punk Rockabilly Hippy - but shall probably adjourn to Ye Cracke / Belvedere...

I think if forum members are considering a pre-show rendezvous a shrewd choice would be the back room of the Phil pub......nice and roomy (yes, fancy bogs too) and just 25 yards' staggering distance to the Philharmonic Hall. It should be fairly quiet before the show but packed afterwards.

Copied over from the Gateshead thread:

Hey Everyone,

Would anyone going to this show be able (and kind enough) to pick up a copy of the last of the Lowedges LPs that are apparently for sale at these shows for me? Being in Canada, it's hard enough to find Richard's new releases...let alone Lowedges, which it seems is long OOP.

All costs for the record and postage would be immediately reimbursed, of course, and any similar favours would be happily returned (something Canadian you want sent, perhaps?).

This is the last time I'll post asking. I promise.

There were no copies of Lowedges I'm afraid.

That was superb. It knocked spots off the Manchester gig. Yes, nice bonus to get Coles Corner....and there was a bit more banter in between songs.

P.S. The kids loved the shag gag, Mr H!!    All three tucked up asleep already. No lasting trauma, hopefully.
