Too late - Denise has bought our tickets, but it'll still be worth it for one song  :D

"Amongst the guests will be Sheffield legend Richard Hawley..."

I do so hate faint praise :*:

Dave

Ah, so does this mean a Christmas appearance for the musical saw?

Short write up here - I like the sound of "deliciously dark" :*: I wish I'd heard Jarvis' version of "God Rest......"

Lest we forget, for all the Yuletide merriment, good will to all men and so on and so forth, Christmas is also a climactic time of year for curmudgeons, misanthropes and scrooges. The Barbican aims to serve this disenfranchised section of the populace with its Twisted Christmas event, a "deliciously dark" evening of singing and performances. Last year's headliner Jarvis Cocker performed a spooky version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" before joining the rest of the acts onstage for the drunken ensemble finale, "Fairytale of New York". This year Richard Hawley and Ed Harcourt will provide the alternative Christmas, um, cheer.

Hmm - it was certainly different! Some very unusual artists there with some lovely sounds - I enjoyed some of it but most of it wasn't to my taste at all - until Richard came on - and sang Blue Christmas and Santa Claus is back in town - just the two I would have chosen - that man has such taste! :D

Really enjoyed both renditions - only one complaint - the guitar wasn't loud enough on Santa Clause is back in town - and it was too short - another 10 mins of the song would have been great :*:

It was worth it just to see Richard but he was a long time coming...... and the end was so abrupt - Richard ended by thanking everybody and I expected either Jeremy Hardy or David Coulter just to say goodnight and see you next year but nothing - the lights just went up and that was that :?

PS Richard you look great in that black fleece - we caught sight of you just before the gig - that's what you need under the coat on Friday to keep yourself nice and warm :D

Hope this has worked - both songs, not great quality as they were done on my iPhone which is not a decent recording device.
