What a bastard! I want to go to this!! But will be winding my way down the French Atlantic coast in my camper at the time. Only booked it Monday – I mean, it should have been run by me first!

Never been but assorted hippy friends tell me it is the best of the bunch. And that part of the world is one of my favourite bits of England. Make a week of it and go to Charmouth. You can stand on plates of rock with the sea around you and under your feet are four foot long impressions of ammonites. And there is an excellent pie shop. Beautiful place. x

In a side street, next to the Spar, out of the back of someone's garage. Great bakery selling lovely bread, big pies, slab cakes. Long walk on the beach, pick up a few fossils (you can go on a tour with a guide for a few quid and suddenly you realise the beach is made of them), kit off for a quick dip (my boys cannot resist the sea. If we were there now, they'd be in), a hot pie (cheese and onion pasty scrumptious, my boys fave is the Cornish pasties) and a slab of Dorset apple cake. Sure I'd like a desert island as much as the next woman but, throw gin into that equation, and that is pretty much my perfect day. xx

See you could double up. The Charmouth Fayre is on August 4 this year. When we went, they had stalls where you paid 50p to throw bricks at stacks of real crockery – lovely old ladies’ plates all piled up so you could smash them to pieces.
My boys thought they’d died and gone to heaven. “So right mum, all I have to do is give that lady 50p and she’ll let me smash up all her cup and saucers?” “Yes son, here’s a fiver.”
And in the evening, they brought out the hay bales and the cider and some indy tribute band played in the field. And I have scrumpy-fuelled memories of dancing to Teenage Kicks while my kids looked on mortified.
Bestival looks great though – has H, Billy Bragg (who I still have a massive teen saddo crush on), Toots and the Maytals, John Cooper Clarke, Grandmaster Flash and, icing on the cake, Kid Creole and the Coconuts! That was what I told my career’s adviser at school, that the secretarial course was all very well but I wouldn't need it as I was going to be a Coconut.
I mean, who put this thing together and why, why, why am I not in the country. It’s just fucking inconsiderate. x

Erm...we got asked to play this festival, but it was on a no fee, just have free tickets basis. We politely declined.

Bestival - we're playing another festival on the Isle of Wight - Rhythmtree - and we got asked to do Bestival through them. Even though it sounds like a great gig, we couldn't afford to do it without getting paid. 430 mile round trip, petrol, ferry, food and accommodation - not cheap!

Just got back from Camp Bestival (and a long Sunday at the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers near by - excellent place). Had an amazing weekend. Richard's gig was the highlight. Really enjoyed 'There's A Storm A Coming', 'Leave Your Body Behind You', 'Down In The Woods', 'Tonight The Streets Are Ours', 'Serious' and some great encores including 'Rockabilly Radio' and 'Dig Myself A Hole'.

Was lucky enough to meet Richard and the guys. What a bunch of absolute gentlemen. Also Johnny from Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods who guested on the double bass, really nice bloke. Anyway, made my weekend. Cheers! :Hoorah

Also bumped in to Al Gare from Imelda May's band and his brother who are top blokes also!
