Been to a few when I was younger but could never see the attraction of camping so close to someone you can hear them shagging and farting. And people pissing up your tent in the middle of the night. If that's rock and roll, I'll give it a miss...x

Went to Glasto in the late 80s - ticket - £28. There were about 30k people there and it was quite decent - went three more times in the late 90s and early 2000s and it had got silly. Prefer to stay at home and watch it on the telly, and frequent smaller festivals nowadays...

There's something in the distance
a glorious existence

I know it's not for everyone but went a few years ago and loved it.

We had the full experience : sun, rain, mud, long drop and portaloos, wet wipe washes and dry shampoos.

It's a testament to tolerance that so many folk can camp so close together in those conditions without rioting. The British spirit I guess.

The food quality was good and the choice varied (from burgers and bacon butties to roast dinners and paella and even an on-site bakery) and the prices were reasonable too.

There's a photo of our group stood at the barrier of the pyramid stage looking really happy - not sure the smiles would have been so wide if we'd seen the hoardes of people behind us stretching into the distance as far as you could see

The choice of music and venues was great. Would love to go again sometime but would probably give the camping a miss next time around

Didn't your mother ever tell you, it's the quiet ones you've got to watch...

I 'like' Billy on Facebook (when you actually see it written down, you look like a bit of a bunny boiler and, as you know, I wouldn't want that) – but like him I do so I stuck a little reply on it there. Because, on this issue, he's wrong. £200 for a ticket is stupid – the whole thing has turned into a corporate beast and I would dearly love to see a festival of more progressive or left leaning individuals, be they musicians or poets or comedians or thinkers. But not next to a bunch of media types from Muswell Hill, invading my personal happiness zone with their shagging and farting. Or talking. Or even breathing.

Hey, maybe you (the seasoned Monkey Boy promoter) and Pops (the young pup looking to make his way in the music promoting world) and me (camper van loving, gin swigging millie-tant) should put on a festival, with good music (gobby, bespeckled Sheffield types would have to man-up on that one, and you can throw in a dangerous Quiet one if you like), with no shagging and farting, or people on Twitter. I'm going to be made redundant soon enough – I could use the £3.50 I'll have left over after paying off my debts to finance the whole venture. Who needs the Dragon's Den when you've got winning ideas like that... x

My friend loves Glastonbury. She has gone many times over the years and has taken her kids. She is very militant, left-wing, protest marching, active union member so I think, big though it has become, that there is still an element of what it used to be. She is always sending me petitions to sign. I think the last one was about baby milk (don't ask). She does the full camping thing. I couldn't cope with the closeness to strangers and their more intimate habits (as Helen would say- shagging and farting). I liked the Teddy Boys' Picnic. Can't we have another one of those?

£200 is a lot of money. I don't know who all the 'headliners' are this year, but if you think of it in terms of you'd be paying £40+ at the very least to see each of them, bands of that scale don't play for free. The problem with Glasto is you've got what could quite easily be at least 3 or 4 seperate festivals all thrown into one giant behemoth, and everybody has to pay through the nose for it. Too many idiots are quite happy to fork out stupid money to watch Mumford & Fucking Sons and they pay the same price as somebody who just wants to sit in a field and smoke their own toe nail clippings. But the little bits wouldn't flourish without the big.




And he's twice as old as me!
