Absolutely Emma!!!
Joe Strummer definitely came to mind last night and I see what you mean about Gene Vincent, without the mop, o'course!
I reckon all Vincent (and maybe the Villains too) need now is a quiff. Always a good thing!
Great sound. I thought it was like a cross between Rockabilly (of course! :*: ) and Franz ferdinand/ Gang of Four.

I was ranting to Samantha that it was like the 100 Club in the Summer of 76 - then it was pointed out that in the summer of 76 I was on the dole and didn't even get to Erics in Liverpool until the summer of 77

Ah, but your rant was well-intended, that's the main thing!

I loved these guys. My mates were more interested in the beer than the support band so I watched them on my own. I'll definitely be checking out their album in March. Interesting that a few of you have made comments about who the lead singer reminded you of - in my mind he was Eddie Cochrane reincarnated.

Absolutely brilliant support act. I look forward to hearing more from them in future.

It's kinda garage, flemenco rockabilly, whatever it is, it's bloody brilliant!!!!
Love them as much as seeing the boss, we'll be off to see them very very shortly again!! Agree with the quiff thing! i said that when i first saw him :*:

Check out the song Killing Time on their myspace, it's genius!

Funny you should say that, front man reminded me of Joe Strummer also,is a mixture of his jerky energetic stage presence and a vague physical resemblance, uncanny!!

I liked everything about them except the lead singer's voice. :?

I didn't think the sound was great during their set at York so maybe that's why.....but there's no doubt they had brilliant stage presence and I LOVED the sort of Stranglers meets Stray Cats thing they had going on.

reading the thread, am reminded of the old gag about hollywood producers pitching movies/actor to a studio.... "it's kind of a Gone With the Wind meets Get Shorty" "When Harry Met Sally meets Indiana Jones" "Aliens meets Predator" ... o wait....

(just me being envious again.... maybe they'll tour the west coast)

For those who are curious and not seeing them at a gig.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZBCVbgT4dY

Wasn't keen on them myself, they started off ok but for me they were a mish mash of styles,a sort of Stray Cats meets Flamenco style, not my cup of tea tbh, having said that they went down well with everybody else.

Their album "Gospel Bombs" is released tomorrow, and all 12 tracks are up for preview on their MySpace page at the minute. I like what I have heard so far! Personal favourites would be "Beast", "Blue Boy", "On My Own" and "Pretty Girl".

And grace is just the measure of a fall.
