Yeah but it's not much fun being on a train for an hour on your own when you're buzzing after a Hawley gig!

Have just remembered a lovely moment when Maggie and I arrived at The Grand Opera House for the York gig. I was waiting for Maggie in the entrance and one of the ushers (an elderly gent, even by my standards!) started chatting to me. He said "this guy's very good y'know. I heard him at the sound check and I was quite impressed. He's a bit like that there chap who does the Divine Comedy thing ... but a bit better" :*:

My Brother-in-Law said Richard sounds like The Divine Comedy.

It's the deep voice thing again.

If a singer has a deep voice he will be mainly likened to Scott Walker, but Neil Hannon's name often crops up. If they wear dark glasses and a quiff then Roy Orbison gets mentioned (or sometimes Elvis Costello).

But I have found whenever I tell someone about some new music that I like, I'm always asked who do they sound like. So you have to pick on musicians they are likely to have heard of when trying to describe the sound.
