Richard, whilst the guitar in various forms obviously reigns supreme, sleeve notes of your albums inform that you have played other intruments on your recordings such as enchanted lyre, piano, vibraphone, drums, etc.

Im just interested to hear your own comment on the degree of playing proficiency you have achieved with instruments other than the guitar. (Rude remarks optional when it comes to any wind instruments!)

Thanks for the reply. I was just interested to know a bit more about the range of instruments you might play with the lads to contibute to a fuller sound when recording in the studio. Your reply

Wow. Quite an impressive range. Thanks for going to the trouble to assemble the photos. That's enough homework for you for tonight!

Is one of those insruments a autoharp, what's the piano looks a bit like a Melotron but with a wood case. Joe Meek used a "Toy" instrument in some of his productions, if it sounds good....

You're taking the piss with the Melody Harp, I guess? My sister had one when I was about seven or eight.

London's Burning, London's Burning, Call the Engine, Call the Engine...Fire! Fire!

And then there was I'm a Little Teapot, My Grandfather's Clock and Shoo Fly - Don't Bother Me!!!!

My favourite was a melodica (green and the same make as this one below).

It leaked spit down your leg as you played, had a horribly gnarled mouthpiece and always tasted of kids' mucus.

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrh, them were the days.

Would you like to borrow it?

You gave me a flash back to primary school recorders!!..London's Burning and other kids spit having to put your mouth on those chewed up ends was vile especially if you had to go after the kid with the perpetual green candles leaking out of his nose.!!!...good times

I think you've guessed wrong - it must produce a good sound if Richard uses it!

Why rule something out just because you used it as a toy when you were a kid?

See previous post, if a toy was good enough for Joe Meek, I think it was a Zylophone. Best thing is if you can make a great sound out of "Toy" or a "Toilet" then it's a great snub at the so called experts and all their techno A&R men who know best...

Which is pretty much word for word what Hannibal Lecter once said. :D

Oh dear, I feel told off.

There's a few strains of Mahleresque harp in the intro to Coles Corner.

But I'd be surprised it they were courtesy of a twangy steel Melody Harp from Woollies.

You're right though, Mr H is the master. ..> ..> :*:
