Just back after seeing this year's 'Surprise Film' at the London film festival which turned out to be the new version of Brighton Rock (really good by the way) Helen Mirren is particularly good and the part of Pinkie is played by Sam Riley who played Ian Curtis in Control. The second surprise of the night though was the familiar sound of Richard singing 'there's a storm coming' over the closing credits! Kept that one quiet ...

i really enjoyed the film when i saw it i only saw the rushes as it was in a pre edit state and i was impressed enough to write a new version of there's a storm a comin'.....it is without doubt one of my favourite songs i have written. The new version is a lot lot darker.......the film is more like the book it is well worth seeing

Will the new version of the song be released? ie separate from the film.

Oops missed that mention, Denise!

I really enjoyed the film - very different to the original version, with a different ending and as Richard says they've gone back to the book rather than just 're-hashing' the original Boulting Brothers' film. Also the film is set in the sixties which I think works really well. Some really good performances and it is so good to see a mature actress who hasn't had loads of plastic surgery!

Not sure when it's on general release - last night was the 'unofficial' European premiere.

Marc Riley has just played the new version of 'There's a storm a comin' on 6 Music. Sounds great. The show should be available to 'listen again' sometime after 9pm - track starts about 75-80 minutes in.

Wow...that IS different......I found myself holding my breath in the middle as it changed....from lovely and lyrical to dark and menacing.......very powerful indeed.

Thanks Denise....all we need now is where to buy it?

Thought I was just listening to the False Lights version until the mood changed! I've now replayed it half a dozen times and as usual with everything Hawley it gets better and better with each listen. The shift to something much darker really gives an already exceptional tune another edge and fits perfectly with its title. When and where do we get hold of this version? I'm guessing there's going to be a Brighton Rock soundtrack released so will this be the first and possibly only place to get it?

Looking forward to hearing this live now Mr Hawley

Brilliant - the John Barry-esque shift in the second half works stunningly well. Love it to bits.

There's A James Bond Theme A Comin'.
We can't stop playing this, thought the original was fantastic but this version has got to be one of the best tracks Richard has recorded.
Like others have said, this will be some song performed live.
Nice one Richard  :D
