For those that couldn't access it live, Alt-J won it

Shame but it's not like RH and the bands work in making the brilliant album that is Standing at the Sky's Edge was done specifically to win this 'prize' 8)

Earlier tonight I was listening to Late Night Final and Long Black Train made me cry - not heaving wailing wolf like crying - just a tear to the eye - your the business.

Mebbes need to make that album!

Anyways and how, it's a super record and isn't diminished by not winning the Mercury...heard Leave Your Body Behind You in a pub the other day and it sounded magical. Keep doing what you're doing Richard. You believe in yourself and it shines through. Everyone on here loves your music but many more who don't idle their days away on here love it too.

Prizes are nice to win but in the grand scheme of things are a contrived assessment at a moment in time and when it comes to any kind of artistic statement soon passes into oblivion while the art lives and finds its own way of impacting on the world it has arrived in...

Ahem.....think I'm rambling here - Guinness makes me loquacious... but the you get the drift

It's a shame Sky's Edge didn't win, it certainly deserved to, but just getting nominated will have raised Richard's profile and the album's so will have done some good I'm sure.

Sky News have a report on the Mercury Prize where they say:

Singer-songwriter Richard Hawley, who was nominated for his album Standing At The Sky's Edge, narrowly missed out again - six years after claiming he was controversially "robbed" by the Arctic Monkeys.

http://news.sky.com/story/1005894/alt-j-win-mercury-prize-for-an-awesome-wave

That makes me so angry! It was Alex Turner of course who famously said "call 999, Richard Hawley's been robbed!" This is very lazy journalism :x

That was a disappointing result, I really thought Standing At The Sky's Edge would win it.... Alt-J's album is very one dimensional, so the lead singer Joe Newman has a stand out voice... But for me that's it....

Gutted.
