Hi Richard,
hope all's well with you? Just a quick question, purely out of curiosity. The BBC have just made available hundreds of Alastair Cooke's Radio 4 Letter From America broadcasts from the 1940's onwards - a brilliant listen if anyone is interested.
I was listening to one the other day, and Cooke was talking about the long forgotten Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930 - a massive tax levied on imported goods to the US. Essentially a protectionist act, part of the US's isolationist policy of the time. The Hawley part of the act was a Republican senator from Oregon called Willis C. Hawley.
I dimly recalled reading somewhere that your middle name was Willis. It seems deeply unlikely on the face of it, but I was curious, is there any connection there at all, that you know of?
