Was listening to loads of drivel about this on Crapital radio in the car last night. Sounds an unbelievable load of over-hyped shit. Poor H. At least the beer will be free...x

You needn't be there to win, is it so? So good luck anyway.

My kids will have your tickets – I know they’re only 8 and 13 but isn’t that the age range the whole pile of shite is aimed at anyway? They were badgering me to enter a competition to win Crapital Radio VIP passes, where you could see the show and meet the stars, like some kind of modern day Jim’ll Fix It. And look how wrong that was!

But, after all these years of devout atheism, I have discovered that there must be a God after all, as the piss party was only open to over 18s.

Ferrying my two around, from swimming, to athletics, to karate, to band, the radio is tuned constantly to Crapital, who play the same ten records made up almost entirely from most of the nominees. And I am developing an irrational, unbridled, all-consuming loathing of the lot of them.

I am working on the principle that if I am a hairshirt now and say you’re not listening to this shit, they will rebel when they are teenagers and join Mumford & Sons or some other bunch of talentless dross. Whereas if I capitulate now, they will become fine, good people of impeccable taste and principles. Like their mum.

It will work, won't it??????? x

You should get someone to go who looks a bit like you, but not very much. And then a lot of people will go 'is that him?? he looks different somehow'

This bloke for example...

I dare you!!!

Ray Reardon isn't dead apparently. He lives in Brixham, came from the same small Welsh town as Nye Bevan and is president of his local golf club. And he looks like Richard from behind. Sure he'd take a trip up to the smoke if asked. I could meet him for a pint and a few frames with my dad after. And a pie. Tough job to turn down that one... x

So that's what he does! I have been asking what musically ability he has as an artist but so far no one has enlightened me. I did see him "twiddling a knob" and wearing half a headphone set behind Teeny Todger the other week but he didn't even join in the chorus.

If you can't play an instrument and don't do vocals how can you be up for a music award?

He’s Scottish. And he’s a DJ, not that I am opposed to saying a DJ is a musician, because we’d never have had Jazzie B, Andy Lewis, Grandmaster Flash or a whole generation of Jamaican toasters. It’s just the fact that he’s shit that offends me.

My resolution this year to get mine out seeing people that can really play instruments – my boys play the guitar, piano, trombone and trumpet between them and they love it. But all the music they listen to and like is made by a computer.

I’m going to do some festivals and take them to see Jools Holland, who may not be the King of Cool, but he has people in his band that play a funky trombone which is important to small boys. They’ll still probably think it’s crap but fortune favours the brave. x
