When you are ready, there is a needy dog somewhere with your name on him...

Well it would appear we are ready - had a phone call this afternoon - taking a message for Samantha - it went along the lines of - 'the two year old black labrador will be ready for pick up after 6.00 pm Friday from the Vet Surgery'.

I thought Samantha wanted a time to grieve - but she got word that this dog was to be put to sleep 'as the owners were going on holiday' <sheeesh> and being the practical sort bagged him - the same thing happened with me in a pub about 23 years ago...

The Vet would not put the dog to sleep but did take the dog off the people who wanted rid.

He was in the process of being moved to a rescue centre near Preston - but will stay at the Vets <more local to us> until he is ready to be shipped out.

For the first time we will be changing the dogs name - we used to stick with whatever they were called previously - but we liked the idea of a dog called Taggart - and look forward to shouting after him on the beaches around Scotland ..>

Pic to follow come weekend.

Oh bless, congratulations and well done to Samantha and the vet. :Hoorah

So wrong to want to put a pet down like that for such a ridiculous reason - they are obviously the people that should never have taken an animal on in the first place.

Can imagine the looks on the beach - "there's been a murrrrder ......." :D

That's brilliant, PD, and an absolutely great name, as well.

Good news PD and great name, although if you were getting a Rottweiler you could call it Brick
Shithouse, Shithouse for short and see what reaction you got shouting that!

That's great news Pops – get back on the bike, son. You and your lovely lady will give the chap a lovely home. In fact, I'm thinking when everyone gets too fucked off with me at home, I might apply to come and live with you too. Enjoy. xx

I've just read the bad news about Charlie, but I'm so glad you've already found another dog to cheer you up. And he's obviously gained from the move, too. May his previous owners' holidays turn out a failure.

Well his name was Major - we changed it to Taggart - which has been shortened to Ted - settling in OK.

Turns out the folks who handed him over to the Vet to be put to sleep were acting on behalf of the owners who were moving to Spain - and given the posh gear that he came with I am looking for any footballer living South East of Manchester that has had a move to Spain in the last few days...

Good lad - a bit territorial - Sister's family came round for a quick visit and he wasn't happy - but he wasn't that bad either 8)

So sorry to hear about Charlie. Also glad you have a new dog to share your life.

My poor dog was attacked by a cat yesterday, he will never live it down. He was sniffing a gate post, as he does  when a demon cat jumped at him through the hedge. He shifted out of the way and I moved towards the cat to encourage it to run off. It then slashed at my foot with its claws and ran at my dog again. As he is a lurcher and made to chase cats it is a bit embarrassing for him.

Only just seen the posts about Taggart. I am really pleased that you found a deserving case. Dogs don't need designer gear just people who are kind to them and his previous owners sound awful! I hope he has settled down ok. My Westie Leo belonged to students who had him for a year then dumped him at the groomers because they were moving back to China. He was a pain in the ass for the first few months (partly because he didn't "speak"/ understand english!) but with time and patience has become an amazing dog who we love dearly.
Last month we had a cracking holiday in Cornwall with the dogs. They loved it!
