Great comments on Barrett. Especially about David Gilmour's contribution and your observation of "hearing the flutterings of the candle, just before it went out" sums it up perfectly. It's an album that I don't listen to very often nowadays but when I do it's just magic :)

See you on Friday in York ..>

Thanks for what is a great interview. Just off to listen to Syd Barrett, who somehow I've never listened to. And Link Wray's vocal stuff too. Interviews like this are what it's all about, passing on the love for music.

Just readproperlynow. A remindertogetsome Tim Rose. Icame to Little Walter through Muddy Waters both after John Lee Hooker. HearingJuke for the first time engulfed me. I re=read Peter Guralnick pieceon Muddy in Feel Like Going Home last week an ahe gets over the special place Walter had with Muddy. " Little Walter lefthome at 8..." tells you what you need to know about his hand inlife.

Guralnick's latest book might interest you Richard and anyone else smitten

Guralnick interview here is good, Wolf and Solomon Burke captured his soul I think

Nice, that's going on the list! Super dug the favorite albums article too--especially the bit about enjoying Dylan for his mind. That's why I listen to a lot of things, for sure--it's not necessarily the musicianship or the melody, it's that I'm entranced with how the person thinks. Same with books; maybe it's not the strongest plot or whatever, but there's something so good about the language or a character that you can't help but love it. I feel like that's true for people, too. They might be a little scratched or dented, maybe they're missing a part or two, and maybe they don't always behave the way we'd prefer, but don't they shine up pretty? :D Wait. That's cars. I'm talking about cars. But anyway. You get me.

If you've not heard them, the extra tracks on the Syd Barrett Crazy Diamond boxset are great - bonus tracks and alternate takes for all solo albums. Take 1 of Dominoes is beautiful, just Syd and his acoustic.

Thanks Richard (and Dawoodcock) for sharing your favourites (I loved the Sunday Service you did too, so thanks for all of those wonderful things!).
