The first record I can remember is The Beatles - Hard Day's Night. I was only little and remember the line 'and I've been working like a dog' and thinking it was cruel to make a dog work.

Like a lot of people on this thread my first memory was probably Michelle by the Beatles, but probably collectively World Wide Family Favourites on Radio 2 on a Sunday with BFPO wherever- tunes like Louis Armstrong" What a Wonderful World."... probably the tune from school was a hippy student teacher when I was in Mr Cole's class at Primary playing " Don't ask us, we're part of the Union" by Strawbs - don't remember the reason why we were listening to it though -

'In and out of the red balloon' - but I can't think who sang it....is my first radio memory. My first proper song memory is 'What do you want to make those eyes at me for' (with 'My canary has circles under his eyes' on the B side!) - having three older brothers I was often given the job of changing the records on the Dansette when they had their mates round! :*:

The first record i can remember was either - The Birdie Song by The Tweets (was it?) or It's my Party by Dave Stewart and Barbara Someone. My memory these days.

The Birdie Song is inextricably mixed up with a memory of modelling a red dress for Littlewoods catalogue at Pontins - must have been 1980 or so?

It's my party was bought for me by my auntie Pat and i remember the cover which had Dave Stewart in some sort of mask and Barbara in long scary nails.

Think it was one of these two, Standing On The Corner - The King Brothers, or Once When I was Mustering - Slim Dusty (B side of Pub With No Beer). They were my Dad's. I've still got them, and the Dansette!

God I'm showing my age (or lack thereof) here, but I think the first song I was really aware of was probably 'Common People'. Though my dad's always had David Bowie in the car & I remember 'Starman', so I can't really think which would have been first.

First song I remember is Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant.
A few years later I was bought a tape of "party hits" that had a very very scary picture of a clown on the front. It had that song and the Ghostbusters theme, Karma Chameleon and Boney M 'Brown Girl In The Ring' on it too. It was my favourite tape.

My other abiding memory of music at an early age was car journeys with my dad's choice of the same damn tapes - Fleetwood Mac's 'Tango In The Night' on one side and Tina Turner 'Private Dancer' on the other. The other tape he had was 'Brothers In Arms'. If I hear any of that now I just feel really stuffy and carsick :puker:

My mum favoured The Carpenters and Cliff.
Wired for Sound and Carrie? Awesome.

I think it was 'Accidents Will Happen' by Patsy Ann Noble - whatever became of her, I wonder. Strangely, (and probably sadly) I can still remember the first verse!

'Hot Dog Buddy Buddy' by Bill Haley. As a toddler, I used to ask my dad to play the 'the sausage song' record.....

that was in the mid '70's - the first song I remember seeing on TV was Rod Stewart's 'sailing' or Queen's 'bohemian rhapsody'. The Bill Haley record was first though.

Hi there fellow Meek Freak. I once got a clip round the ear in school assembly for raving over Telstar. Worth it though, it's a masterpiece :)

Are you going to the premiere in Sheffield this Saturday of "a life in the death of Joe Meek" ? Richard is doing the introduction
