Can I ask you a question, Mr. Hawley? About song-writing.
I'm sticking my neck out here and it matters to me. Tread lightly, if you can.
I love to sing. It's the best thing in the world. I don't do it very often. But I sing for friends and I've been known to sing in public a few times...even been paid for it. When I sing, I get into a groove, if you like, that is beyond words. You may well understand what I'm talking about. Anyway, things have changed for me and I am hoping to be in a better position to do more singing/music in the not too distant future. That's just to set the scene.
When I was living in Berlin, I made the space for myself to start song-writing. And it happened. From somewhere I received the perfect song for me. It was fully arranged, fantastic words with a distinct verse and chorus. I was in awe of it and found the experience delicious. I sang it over and over again. But the awe was still there and I didn't record it there and then.
Look, this will probably seem like the most loaded post. I've struggled with music theory. I'm dyslexic and that may be why it's so difficult. But how on earth can I write songs? Do I have to learn to play all the instruments in a band? Or how do you manage to communicate the feel of the song to a fellow band member, if that's the way it goes?
I'm asking you and anyone who's watching and understands what I'm saying. I ask you, Mr. Hawley because your songs are beautiful. I wouldn't ask someone whose songs I didn't really admire. And it's just possible that you'll be sypathetic. I'm prepared for the possibility that this may just be a drag. And that's fine with me. I thought I'd ask anyway.

tough one,i just go really quiet in my mind when they arrive, its hard to let them in sometime's as its a bit rude when one arrive's and your with your Mum in Asda or something,i made a new one up in soundcheck yesterday,.............................i really want to help you out but find it hard to explain.Tape them as quickly as possible work on them a load after and develop the idea if needs be and be patient as they sometime's need a bit of distance from you to get what its all about. As in don't listen to the tape for a while.......its a bit like a crossword when you can't get a clue............you go back to it..........see it in another light..........and BOOM..........the answer is with you.Hope this helps.

:D :D :D
Thanks, lads.
I think it does help me. It's hard putting these things into words. So, do you use a kind of 007 device tucked into your inside pocket? Or do you go around with a full DAT kit? I'm laughing to myself, because somehow I seem to have spent my entire life carrying around stuff. My bag today was full of cds. (It should have been full of revision notes). It sounds like it's really quite esoteric, like it's about making things concrete that are hanging about in the ether. And that is pretty hard. Could do with some sort of Star Trek phaser thingy.

Don't let dyslexia put you off. It's only a problem if you think of it as such. The spoken word always comes first, so don't be shy if you've something to say
