for what its worth I feel that a lot of singers who I listen to may not always be pitch perfect even on record but its those little flaws in the voice for want of a better word that can make a singer unique and interesting and as long as they sing with passion and truth and aint totally all over the place I'll take that unique individual sounding voice over the mass produced boring talentless wankers of pop idol etc. any day of the week.

I'd take passion and feeling over technical perfection every time.

Definitely, you've just got to mean it. A technically 'good' voice isn't always the most important thing. But I agree with what Richard said at the start of this one, anybody can sing if they just don't think too hard about getting it right.

Is there anything in the theory that a person can be tuned in to a certain pitch or type of voice? I've always been drawn more to guitar instrumental music rather than vocalists, but Richard's voice seems to have flicked a switch somehow. The baritone guitar seems to have the same effect. Ever listened to jet Harris 'Man From Nowhere'? Hits something very deep in the core of me.

The mini album sounds, to me, to be in a slightly higher register, am I right there? Though that doesn't detract anything for me. I have the extended version & there are some towering moments on there.

there aren't many of the "deeper"frequency's your looking for on the mini album i couldn't afford a baritone guitar back then,my voice was very new to me too so i hadn't learned to realise had such a deep voice yet so al the keys are higher

And then there's the issue of writing lyrics that actually mean something. I have enough trouble dealing with a guitar never mind opening my gob.

When I started, I used to record myself singing with just the guitar. Then I'd listen back to just get used to hearing myself sing. I would have died if anyone else heard me, but over time my confidence grew and my technique improved too, and now I can sing at gigs no problem.

As for the lyrics thing, it's a cliché but it really is true - write about what you know.

it used to vary more but these days its pretty consistently low.......i can belt it out when needed.................weddings christnings,funurals etc etc

I think Scott Walker had something there..........................Richards voice has such a tone that makes you believe the words he is singing and you really feel he's been to the place he is singing about.................deffinitely can tell the "genuine" part.........................
