Hey Richard, i wonder if you can help or any of your many disciples. i was watching jools holland (best of) the other night and a younger kt tunstall played solo (with a lovely dove!). my question is, she also had a nifty little stomp box which i think could have been a digital delay/ sampler of somekind. but it went through the whole song doubling, trebeling vocals and masses of guitar overlays. what little gem could do this? seemed to be really simple to use but really effective. guesstimate of cost would also help
Cheers in advance! :D

KT uses a AKAI E2 Headrush, which she's nicknamed Wee Bastard! :*: Lovely! Dunno much else about them meself - but I'm sure someone else could fill you in...

They cost about £100: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop ... ct_id/5529

Tempted to rush out and get one myself, but suspect I'd fall flat on my arse trying how to use it! Wasn't much of a KT fan but after seeing that performance I think I might have to revisit some of her stuff

this would be her solo performance in November 2004 when she stood in at short notice for an indisposed performer...and stole the show? :) i remember it well.

thanks for the head up, gonna have a look about to see if i can pick one up used. as for her performance on jools, i agree. amazing even put up against the best of! even the wife sat up and thought she was 'very clever' (big compliment!) i still find it exciting after 30 years of playing guitars to find things like this, new ideas from bands, old guitars, new guitars and even forums ( this is the first and only one i have joined). i too will be checking out KT's albums again, it is sometimes good to miss an artist or band first time round and then drown yourself in there ideas and see a rapid progression. lucky for the kids who didn't have to wait for 'the second coming' then the shits break up! seahorses my arse! sorry went off on one then, old wound!
Thanks again

I use one of those pedals for my acoustic gigs. They're great, just make sure you spend time practicing with it as it's very easy to go a little bit out and then sound shite! They also have a tape echo, and another delay facility on there but I never bother with them

KT Tunstall's set up is different though, she has y-split cables from her mic & her guitar, each with 2 cables from the one input, so she has one of each going into the PA, and then the other lead from each goes into a little 4 channel mixer, which then runs into the loop pedal, and in turn that runs in to the PA. So she always has a clean sound as well as the option of looping on both her mic & guitar. A lot of faffing about, but great results if you get it right!

You can pick them up on ebay for about £80 new if you look around.

Do/have you manage to incorporate it with the band then Richard?

I tried using one when gigging with a band and it didn't work out with timing etc. Of course you probably have the pleasure of jamming with better rhythm sections than I have had!

I can't fault it for my solo gigs.

I was really impressed with a bloke called Jospeh Arthur using the same kind of technology. Here he is on Later a few years ago:

got it tried it and after 20 mins got a bit of a rhythm goin and the kids all joined in had great fun. definetly recommened having a go. BUT, tried it with the band, Last Time(stones) to keep the riff going and after a few seconds realised we'd speeded up and it sounded awful, not that the bass and drummer noticed (thick'os !) so guess it ll have to be a solo thing :)

They send them out in e-mails but not sure what the criteria is to get one, I had one a couple of weeks back, only for £5 but it came in useful.
