here goes a forum thread for the 'flying tangent' award 2008.
From Hendersons to the Smiths... to...
I've been listening to the smiths loads recently for some reason, when I got a new car last year, I meticulously had to plan what my 'first track' would be when i put the CD in. My previous motor was 'this is the one' by the stone roses, this one i was torn between flying saucer by the wedding present, but i eventually chose something that would sound fucking great when whapped up full voume, had to be the best intro ever, so I chose 'How soon is now'
WHAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA Neeeeeuuuuuwwwwwwww!
Last week on the radio (radio one- i had the kids in the car
) some twat of a dj talked through the intro all the way to the vocal. Fucking sacrilige.
got me onto an ongoing debate with some mates- the best intro to a song ever... ie something that from the very first note on the radio you recognise will just whack up the volume. Mine was How soon is now... iconic, unmistakeable, distinctive memories of seeing it live where it shakes the back of your pants...
some others that were mooted... 'smoke on the water', 'under the bridge' (chilli peppers... **COUGH** not the all saints version **COUGH**), Pretty Vacant, White riot, blue suede shoes, whole lotta rosie!
so, best intro ever?
(may have to take this out of the dee dar forum though)
