eh up

My missus works at a place called The Burton Street Foundation which is a charity based community centre that provides facilities, services, and activities for people in the surrounding area, and in particular, people with learning disabilities.

She has helped put together an art exhibition at the place where she works, consisting of paintings & sculptures by people who use the place. There's also some pics by yours truly of some of the dance groups that are based there. If you live around the area or are interested in this sort of thing it would be much appreciated if you pop in and have a look.

The blurb and some pics..

The Burton Street Foundation presents a free exhibition called "Artability" consisting of art, sculpture, and film created by the people who use our facilities and attend our services.

The Burton Street Foundation is a Community Anchor Organisation providing services for people with learning difficulties, sports and fitness services, community groups, and small businesses. We aim to create an environment that makes people with a variety of different needs feel safe and accepted and be able to take part in different creative activities that are of great social value.

Artability aims to give the people who use Burton Street an opportunity to exhibit their artwork. Many of our artists use art as a form of communication and self expression. It is not only about the end result but also about the process. They are able to work free from boundaries and expectations and are unpressured to conform to traditional art values.

The exhibition will not only include work by group members but also staff and volunteers. We would like this exhibition to focus on people's ability and achievements and not their disability. It will also increase awareness and promote the valuable work of Burton Street.

As well as the exhibition space there is an adjacent bar & cafe area which also has a display of photographs of many of the groups that use Burton Street and the exhibition is open 10-5 daily.

The location is

The Burton St Foundation,
57 Burton St,
Hillsborough (just off Langsett Rd)

Click - http://tinyurl.com/4rytfk - to see a map of where we are.

The exhibition is situated in the first building on the right as you enter the main driveway.

Please see attached examples of work from the exhibition.

Hope to see you there!

It's got to come down on Friday unfortunately as the space is needed by the groups that use the place.
