well, this is a bit of a crusher: :? :( :(

Unfortunately the weekday promoters Know Your Onion Promotions (KYO) and Mentholman Promo have now left the venue, as have the sound engineering team and several of the bar staff including the manager Kev.

From now on it is this observer's opinion that it'll be unlikely that unsigned original material musicians will be looked after and respected in the manner they have been over the past 22 months and the venue will probably go back to it's old door charge policy where the bands have to do their own sound and provide their own mics, mic stands and DI boxes, with attendences being not as good as they were. Drinks prices have also soared to an average of £3 per pint/bottle.

It was the excellent sound that the sound engineers provided, coupled with the free entry dynamic instilled by KYO and Mentholman and their superb organisational skills and friendly nature that made WSL's Sun-Thursday unsigned gigs what they were and this myspace monkey would like to thank them for their efforts. It's been fun.

However let us not cry over split milk as KYO and Mentholman will now be doing gigs at other Sheffield venues, please check their myspace pages for more info (in this page's top friends)

Thank you all for your support at the gigs,

Former WSL Myspace Monkey.

heard about this yesterday, it's a bit of a bummer, was a good venue and Tam always did us proud with the sound.

Think alot of the gigs are moving to the Casbah, which i believe is gonna be knocked down an all soon and another venue which escapes me at the moment.

Damian & I bumped into Jared t'other night. He & the rest of the team down at WSL have been treated like shit by the owner, & have all voted with their feet. Jared has managed to move a few of the outstanding shows to the Casbah, and will be promoting there regularly from now on.

It is a shame, it was always an enjoyable place to play.

All WWM stuff that was booked in for West Street Live has now upped sticks to The Grapes. Next Sunday's gig (Chris Murphy & Boxer Genius + Blind River Scare + Modern Eulogy) will now take place at The Grapes on the same day (less one act, Electric Tape Recorder who'll now be at The Grapes on July 16th instead). Of the 2 bands who were so far booked in for July, Shakeshudder will now be at The Grapes on September 17th, and Roseville Grand will be back at a TBC date later in the year to coincide with a tour they're doing. The August 17th date has been moved on bloc to The Grapes where the line up will be Also Jack, Jon Crocker and Killing Fields Of Ontario.

I think it's a shame what's happening there as it did provide something a bit different.

What the fuck are they playing at down there? Had some cracking nights in WSL with the last Hawleyboard charity event being a corker. Big respect for Tam on the sound who always did a top job and the juggling bar staff were also the business! It had become a bit pricey though beer wise. :(

The beer was a bit pricey, but the gigs were free, which seemed like a decent trade off.
