Stumbled upon this by chance today. It is from a fascinating site I have used for a ling time called "Derelict Places", where people post amazing photos of all manner of abandoned, run down buildings, including old hospitals and lunatic asylums. Posted today are these of Sheffield's abandoned pubs and one of them reads, "scene of a very early Arctic Monkey's gig"

Love these kind of sites - no where stands still - though sometimes you wish it could.

Found a similar site a while back - that contained photos of going through some tunnels under Sheffield.

But may favourite and for me the saddest are the photos of the old Scala in Runcorn - the place I always wanted to go to but was about 10 years too young to get in.

I take pics of dead pubs, i've got about 600 of them, maybe more. Tragic! I've got some in Sheffield after various trips up there.

About 8 in one mile strip, on the way up to the motorpoint. I asked a taxi driver about it later on, he said they all closed down after the smoking ban came in. Plus people just can't afford to go out so much

There are some beautiful buildings in that thread. There's something really sad about a boarded up pub, more so than many other buildings. It's like a candle without a wick.
