JEFF is a great GREAT guy and has done wonders to put on events and stuff over the last few years.. there is a last hurrahh! being organized by Lizzie (who runs desert island dico there) and dj's our burlyQ night there also...

shes looking for bands dj's and stuff (all unpaid though)that want to say bye bye....

Sad news indeed. I love The Shakey. New owners will be knocking gigs on the head to by all accounts and it'll just be a pub. A great advert for the effects of apathy...

Indeed - it's now on the list of pubs to visit when we pay a quick visit to Sheffield in a few weeks time - looks like there's an all day rock event on which will delight Samantha

Grr. That place quickly became one of my favourite pubs when it opened. Anyone know what's happening to the gigs already lined up there?

Doubt it, i know the people who run the Harlequin and they'd been saying they'd got a new venue for a while now. from what i heard it's still gonna be a music venue...go in to the harlequin on a fri / sat night and see how well that pubs taken off, shakey's only just up the road so i think it'll do well. Hannah the landlady's done a great job with the Harlequin over the past couple of years & i can't see her letting the Shakespeare be just a pub. to be honest i never new the Shakespeare had bands on until a couple of weeks ago!

I dont know about any other gigs but we have a DEC burlyQ booked and its going ahead.

the harlequinn is a good music venue so I dont see why they wont keep the shakey as such. I just feel sorry for jeff as he is a top bloke and has done wonders to keep the athmosphere cool and chilled...

sad days indeed...

I hope you're right. But then does it make sense for them to have 2 places so close together doing exactly the same thing?

I've heard it's business as usual until the end of December.

well yeah, i see what you mean, i think that the Harlequin has definately taken over that are of boozers, i reckon once the Gardeners is back up & running it will be different. be intersting to see what they do with the Shakey though, be good if they had different bands on to what they have at the Harlequin.

Well, that's as it is now really. The Harlequin doesn't seem to have anything like the sheer diversity of music that you get at the Shakey.

I would hope it will carry on exactly as it is now. Its a great venue, and very enjoyable to play.

Feel for Jeff though, top geezer & he has put a lot of graft into it.

I've noticed signs of life at The Gardeners Rest lately. It will be great to see it reopen, can't believe its over 2 years now. Top spot for a couple of beers after rehearsals.
