Has anyone heard the Slo-Mo album yet?

That is one majorly underestimated work of beautiful joy. Right up there with any of the major players that hev ever come out of this city. Cannot possibly recommend it enough. :D

Seek.

Very partial to 4 of those albums - Dare, Different Class, Lexicon of Love, and Penthose and Pavement which got my vote as I thought the other 3 would be well out in the lead - and how right I was!

This subject may be covered on another thread but I always marvelled at how Sheffield produced (and continues to produce of course) many great acts. If you compare this to Leeds ( a city of comparable if not greater size) that produces one big name every 10 years - Sisters of Mercy, The Wedding Present (although some may have been Mancs - willing to be corrected  ) and now the Kaiser Chiefs. Perhaps its the industrial heritage and its proximity to the wonder of the Derbyshire hills.......or something anyway

Tough one! I'd have to pick a pair of joint winners.

The Human League - Dare
Heaven 17 - Penthouse And Pavement

I know it's too early to tell yet but the latest Moloko one is up there at the moment too.

I'm surprised we didn't have any prominent Sheffield reggae bands in the late 70s/early 80s. I remember seeing a lot of good, rootsy reggae bands rehearsing at the Hub on Sharrow Lane when I was a scruffy teenager hanging about in me scruffy clothes, smoking fags. We used to climb up on the school wall and listen to those deep bass notes vibrating the whole building. I think Steel Pulse and Aswad were the inspiration for all that.

wasnt one of the lads in aswad from sheffy?...i cant remember his name but my ex swears he used to know the guy way back b4 aswad, or he had SOME connection with the band
anyone know?
